It's pretty useful to have around generally. We use it for cooking, baking, making coffee/cold brew, and even for measuring for postage when shipping out packages. Already saved us money there and has paid for itself.
The above said, if you want the best kitchen scale, look for something that either has a very long period of time prior to auto-off/tare, or better yet, look for one that will stay on indefinitely if you want it to stay on indefinitely. I believe OXO makes one that does exactly that (but OXO is hard to buy less than retail other than the 20% discount at Bed Bath Beyond).
