First off, thanks for your first deal post and for participating in the SD community. That being said, this is not a good deal. I only happen to know as I just spent some time researching purchase options for this specific vacuum.
The Walmart price is more than the direct purchase price from Shark when buying through their infomercial site: buysharkvertex ($299, basic two accessories plus bonus under appliance attachment and 5yr VIP warranty). There are also two hidden offers you don't see until you checkout. The first gets you a second vacuum for 25% off, which puts it around $225 before tax for the 2nd. The second is an expansion of the 5yr VIP warranty to lifetime for $70. I passed on the lifetime warranty, but might make sense for some people. I tried applying many additional discount codes at checkout, but found none are allowed to stack with this $299 price.
The higher price of $419 to $429 is for the Shark Vertex Upright vacuum with TruePet Upgrade . Additional items include: Self-Cleaning Pet Power Brush, Multi-Angle Dusting Brush, Anti-Allergen Dust Brush, Accessory Bag, Duster Crevice Tool, Flexi Crevice Tool & a bonus Shark-Steam Mop (separate cleaning device). I didn't find those tools compelling enough to warrant the additional $120 at retail. You can pick and choose individually from Shark's site or find knock-off's and/or older Shark accessories much cheaper. Regarding the steam mop, it requires regular manual pumping while using to maintain pressure...no thanks.
If anyone legit wants all those accessories then the best price I've seen is through Bed, Bath & Beyond via a 20% off coupon. Should land somewhere around $335 to $345 before tax. Just note that you cannot get the VIP warranty when purchasing from anywhere except Shark directly.
Regarding 5yr limited warranty vs 5yr VIP warranty: Limited warranty only covers the motor and dustbin section of the vacuum. The VIP warranty covers the vacuum end-to-end (minus belts, filters and rollers that are expected to wear out) and covers shipping/handling.
Thanks. My vacuum motor burnt up yesterday and after research I wanted this vac. In stock at my Walmart for pickup today. It is a good deal if only for being convenient.
