I didn't try it. I think this is an awesome kit and Makita makes great stuff but in already in 9 other battery systems because of Slickdeals and this would just be a bridge to far

Web price is showing at $269. I know it's YMMV, but is it believed that all stores will have it at $199? Getting to the store is a big effort where I am, so don't want to go for nothing.

Thanks

In store the price is $199 with a free 2.0 amp battery. You can get the kit for $137. Long live the hack!

Can confirm. Was able to buy this kit along with 2.0 Ah in stores today. The 2.0 Ah rung up as free. Did the hack, returned the battery and was able to get the kit for 137. Now I'm debating if I should return my M12 drill/driver kit from the previous $115 deal. Oh decisions...

How do we return the battery with receipt if it came up as free? Could you please give more details?

Home depot does prorated returns on most of this kind of "buy this, get that free" deals.
For clean numbers pretend that the kit is $200 and the battery is $100
Buy kit get battery free, so you pay $200 to get $300 worth of stuff. so you paid 2/3 of full price for the items.
So if you return the kit you get 2/3 of $200 which is $133ish
and if you return the battery you get 2/3 of $100 which is $66ish
and if you return both you get 2/3 of $300 (the normal price for the items) which is $200 which is the amount you paid.

I had some issues getting a refund on my battery, so be prepared for possible pushback (was able to return it eventually).

The receipt does say you can return it for value so you might have to push that point.
