Love my GB-BXi7-4770R. Going strong after 5 years as my daily driver PC with 16GB RAM. Great form factor and it handles my 4K monitor like a boss and can do light gaming as well. Just upgraded it to a 2TB SSD in addition to a 1TB msata. Downside is it can get loud under load and the wifi/bluetooth combo card sucks. This seems like a nice upgrade with the extra USB ports and better ventilation so it should run quieter. However since it only has one sata controller you should get a larger SSD.

Just to warn, these are U-series processors, and Amazon has 3 of them listed.

So for instance the desktop i3-10100 is a 4c/8t, but the i3-10100U is 2c/4T, a massive trick IMHO

You have to step up to the i5-10210U to get 4c/8T like the $100ish i3-10100 desktop.

So the $369 i5 could be a good NAS/Plex, even the i3 for $269. I would recommend putting Linux on it, but they ALL have the U620 in there which can do 5+ hardware transcodes no problem, and perhaps a few 4K ones.

Note: If you are going to turn this into a Plex/NAS, you can use the USB ports for up to 10 Gbps which is more than adequate for a few external spinning platters or even SATA SSD. 8 GB (2x4) should be enough for Plex/NAS, etc duties and if you want to run containers also.

Note: Also this doesn't come with a Windows license like a NUC so be warned there.

I did look at these for a while, but I decided to build my own i3-10100 which is smooth as silk and running a bunch of services above NAS/Plex. But I had a server rack, if I were doing it fresh I would be looking at these REAL hard.

When you say transcode, do you mean 5 transcode on the fly with Plex? Have you actually tried it? My computer is much older and looking to upgrade so this is tempting

Newer intel iGPU can be used for hardware transcoding. Even a modern Celeron can do 10+ transcodes.

Don't let the small size fool you. My GB-BXi7-4770R is a beast of a daily driver PC. It handles 4K video, multiple monitors, Virtual machines, browsing with dozens of tabs and just about everything you throw at it. Unless you wan't something for gaming or a super quiet PC, NUC's are a great option as a daily driver, especially with an i7.

I'm skeptical of the 64 GB RAM claim. Going to Amazon, the specs do say 64 GB is installed. But if you go to https://www.gigabyte.com/Mini-PcB...rev-10#kf, it only claims that the max supported is 64 GB and makes no claims as to what is installed. If you go to https://www.newegg.com/GIGABYTE-G...6856164151, it says the max supported is 64 GB and "Memory installed: No Memory", though I don't believe that either. I don't know what to make of all of this conflicting or missing information, but it certainly means I would not risk purchasing it.

EDIT: From Amazon Q&A:

Question: Does this have an os installed? how many mb of ram does this unit have?
Answer: It doesn't come with memory, hard drive, and OS. You will have to buy the memory module, the hard drive, and the OS separately and install it yourself.

Question: Does this mini pc contain memory and ssd?
Answer: No, need to purchase separately.

This info needs to be in the description in big bright letters.

Is what a joke? Am I making a joke? You can click the deal link and find text I quoted, so no. Are the people answering the questions making a joke? Heck if I know. Like I said, there's a lot of conflicting information here.

NUC's are what's called a barebones's kit PC. Unless bundled by the seller, NUC's never come with, memory, hard drive, OS or accessories.

Great. But again, that should be in the description, rather than saying "RAM 64 GB" there.

Don't think it's been mentioned but the listing and Amazon are incorrect.

It does not have 64GB of ram - it has 0gb. You must add your own.m

Makes this less of a deal than I initially thought 🙂 if you don't need this specific form factor, a Ryzen 4500u laptop for around $400-$500 represent a much better value since those come with memory, SSD, OS, and the possibility of portability.

That is on the questions and answers. Granted it is an I7 processor.
