What are the categories like? I have the basic Freedom card from years back; is there any overlap on the 5% categories?
The quarterly categories are the same for the original Freedom card Visa. Until the end of June it's gas and home improvement.

I called and they said you qualify for bonus with new application not conversion to another product. Give it a try and call them about term details

You just confirmed my gut feeling. Thanks & repped.
Can't tell you if you'll get approved for both of not, but for your original question, it will be 1 hard pull either way.

Honestly fyi unless you plan on getting a home or auto loan in the next few months you don't need to worry about pulls on your score. It will bounce back quick

I'm starting to feel guilty about applying for all these cards and getting all these promos. But after years of relatively few cards and gradually paying down debt (and the interest on that debt), I don't feel THAT bad. Recently one family member who had a Chase card referred another family member, who also had several Chase cards, for the Flex card. They were instantly approved and the first member got a $100 referral bonus almost right away, and the second one will get the $200 bonus after they spend $500.

I also applied and was approved for a Capital One Savor card, and just finished spending $500 and got the $200 bonus a few days later. I also referred one family member for a Savor card, they applied and were approved, and I got the $150 referral bonus right away, and they'll get their $200 bonus after they spend $500. Plus one of us also applied and was approved for an Amazon card, with an additional modest $60 bonus.

So between us, that's 3x $200 + $60 new card bonuses plus a $100 referral and a $150 referral bonus, for a total of $910 in free money for basically spending money we were mostly going to spend anyway on things we needed and utility bills and such. And this in addition to each card's rewards bonuses, which add up. And we're not necessarily done yet. We might do some traveling later this year, making an Amex Delta Skymiles card tempting.

Little do these card companies know that they'll make little to nothing on us as we pay off balances in full now. But they know that's the risk going on.
