SlickDeals has brought me so much joy over the years that I wanted to share a pretty awesome deal that I stumbled upon.

For anyone that currently has a SimpliSafe Security System (older generation model) and you've been bummed like I was that the new system is so much more aesthetically pleasing - you can upgrade FOR FREE. The new model is the SSCS3.

Please Read: So here's the catch. The water sensor is no longer supported by the older generation SimpliSafe systems. And given how important of a component that is, any customers hoping to buy a water sensor can no longer avail themselves of their older gen model.

So all you need to do is call SimpliSafe and tell them that you purchased a new water sensor and you can't add it. The new water sensors have an 8 digit ID. The old gen SimpliSafe system only lets you put in 5 digits. So you can't add it.

The rep will offer you a free upgrade on ALL of your system components!! I didn't even ask for it. It seems like its just a standard thing that they are doing. I've tested this 3 times. 100% success. Never once did I have to ask them for the upgrade. They just offered it right away.

** And for anyone wondering, my system was purchased in 2017! So its beyond the 3 year warranty. No issue at all.
** Also I do NOT pay for active monitoring, and that wasn't an issue either.

HINT: For anyone that wants to be SUPER SLICK, you could also purchase used gen 1/2 components on the cheap and get those replaced with brand new gen 3 components.

EDIT: Some people have mentioned that the reps advised them to return the new water sensor and get the old one. That's the whole issue! You can't. They don't sell the old one anymore. The only way to do this is to upgrade your system. So please ask them rep how/where you can buy the old one?

Just tried this too, we've had the first gen for over 5 years with paid monitoring. She offered 50% off, but no more.

You got lucky. It's been several years since the current gen model has released. You got very lucky. People who bought the old system A MONTH before the current model came out couldn't get free upgrade...

I've been a customer since 2015, with interactive monitoring. I called, and they literally said they can't do anything for me; they told me to return the newer water sensor for the older one. I asked if there are any upgrade offers, and she said there is not. I have 22 entry sensors, 5 motion sensors, 8 glass break sensors, 2 freeze sensor, 2 water sensor, and 4 keypads too... very heavily invested in their system.

I've had the Gen 1 system since 2014. We had ongoing issues in 2020 with the base station commutating back to the monitoring service, lots of time troubleshooting, swapping parts, etc. Late last year, maybe October on a troubleshooting call the rep told me they would replace the entire system for free. I probably had $700 in sensors, keypads in the old generation and they did a full swap. I didn't ask for this or even know if was an option and was DELIGHTED at their customer service. Swapping out all the sensors was a chore, but the magnetic bit from the old system is compatible with the new, so it wasn't as laborious as the initial system deployment.

My situation is similar. I have too many Simplisafe sensors, cameras and doorbells. After spending/wasting a lot of time with customer service rep, I could only get 50% off. It is not worthwhile for me to upgrade to the new system even at that discounted price.

Ok let me ask you something... did you specifically tell them that you bought a water sensor and that you can't connect it because its asking for 8 digits and you can only put in 5?

Yes. I called, said I have this new water sensor I bought, and it has eight digits but the keypad only allows me to input five digits. The rep said I bought the wrong one for my system, and to go return it to buy the older one. I asked if there's any upgrade program or special offers for me, and she said no.

Something about your reply tells me that you didn't follow the steps that I outlined. Its not enough to call them and say "hey, I like the new one. Can I have it for free?". You need to tell them that you bought the water sensor and there seems to be no way to add it. They've discontinued the Gen 1 water sensors. You can't buy them anymore. So the ONLY way to use a water sensor is to replace your ENTIRE system. Please confirm. Because I've now seen this done successfully 5 times out of 5 - with ZERO effort or issue.

You CANT buy the old water sensor. Its not even possible. https://simplisafe.com/alarm-sensors

So that doesn't make any sense. Call them again, start over. Be polite. And explain from the beginning that you can't seem to add the water sensor because it has 8 digits instead of 5. If they tell you to return it, as them to show you where you can buy "the old one" because you can't.

I replied to your other comment. You can't buy the old water sensor. The rep must be confused. But ask them to show you how to buy the old one. Once they realize you can't, they'll have no choice but to ask their manager - and the manager will tell them about the FREESS3UPGRADE

Anyone have a discount code for sensors? I am not even sure how/when codes get distributed by Simplisafe. But, I do know they offer site wide discount codes from time to time where you don't have to buy a whole system. Looking for something 25-30% off.
