Comparable? OK, let's compare.

Craftsman: US made
US General: Chinese

Craftsman: 37" wide
US General: 26" wide

Craftsman: 1500lbs
US General: 1000lbs

Craftsman: 13,711 cubic inches
US General: 9,800 cubic inches

Craftsman: $229
US General: $279
I dont know about this one but to anyone looking at getting a tool chest for the first time go look at in store. Make sure the drawers come out all the way so you can see whats in the back of the drawer. Think small sockets. I didnt know this when I bought a large Kobalt chest several years back. Once I got it home and started loading it I realized the last few inches of my drawers where still in the chest. When dealing with small tools, it makes a difference.
Again I dont know about this one but I wish someone would have told me at the time.
It says 18 & 20 gauge on the description.

Not pro construction, probably 20/21 gauge steel. I'd save your money and get a US General box from HF instead.

Can anyone with some experience tell me why I should get this combo instead of a Husky 46" combo for $60 more? Durability isn't a big concern because I'm just an occasional DIY'er looking for a sensible tool storage solution.

+1 I went to Lowe's to buy one and after seeing the build quality, passed. The drawers on this cabinet are single wall flimsy sheet metal that buckles easily. The comparable US general box for $279 AC from HF is much more solid built with double wall construction. In addition to more space with 9800 cu. In, it also comes with pre-cut drawer liners in all the drawers.

9800ci for the harbor freight is less than the 13700 of this one.

My bad. The one I was looking at was the 26" that was smaller. If you just want something for around the home storage that doesn't get much use, the Craftsman is a pretty good deal for the amount of storage you get bur it's a lightweight duty cabinet.
