Will this work at 2666Mhz in a Dell XPS 8940? I read somewhere that overclocked memory don't play well with Dell Motherboards. So just checking before I buy.

It can run at that lower speed. Check the customers images on that page.

Except that this is 1.35V memory. I believe the XPS 8940 requires 1.2V.

When you get your 8940 you need to look in BIOS for XMP and see if you can set voltage to 1.35v for the DDR4 chips.

Bios and Voltage lots of factors. Beware of Ryzen....if you do, get a quality branded motherboard that accepts higher speeds.

Is this a Ryzen system by chance? Ryzen has bad compatibility with RAM, so it will be more of a pain if it is a Ryzen CPU. Motherboards offer bios updates that will improve RAM compatibility. You may want to try updating the bios to see if it will help with the RAM overclock.

Crap! I wish I had seen your comments before I purchased. There is no option in the Bios for XMP in the Dell XPS 8940 to change voltage. And the RAM is not recognized by the system. I am trying to return to Newegg and they charge $11 for restocking fee. What a pain! I just wish I had seen this comment earlier.

That sucks, sorry to hear that. Perhaps try to convince Newegg to replace with the 1.2v and not charge a restocking fee.

No dice. They wouldn't budge. Chatting with Crucial to see if they will swap this out for the 1.2v but since I didn't buy it from them, I don't get the feeling they will oblige.
