Microsoft has recently announced that the price of Xbox Live Gold is going up. The $60 1 year membership will now be $60 for a 6 month membership. If you are subscribed at the current rate they will honor a renew at your old price.
Retailers are now carrying the new $60 6 month cards. You can get ahead by stocking up on the old cards at their original price points being the price hike. This will make the gamepass trick more expensive too at the new price points, so now is the time.
I've provided a few good prices below. Take advantage while you can.
Costco: 2 years for $95.00

You might be better off waiting for sales on 3 month GPU codes.
Is it possible to buy another 2 yrs card from Costco (or more copies of it) and keep offline until my subscription expires then add more xblive? Yes, GPU conversion may not be 1:1 at that time but at least I'll have more xblive memberships.
I think you are only thinking of the people that already have Xbox live, there are many that don't yet and other various reasons why a price increase like this genuinely affects people.
I, for one, appreciate the original poster taking the time to post this up.
I could see Sony slapping together some half assed version of gamepass, but i don't anticipate anything exciting. Sony has never excelled with PSN and I feel it has always been kind of a second thought. I can't see them doing anything mind blowing

You probably should take a look at the FAQ here.

2nd FAQ when you scroll down. The bigger the card the worse the conversion rate
We'll see, I got time since the XLU I have doesn't expire until like 2023.
Knowing MS, if there is backlash and significant subscriber loss...they may change course. But I'm not holding my breath.
But thanks for the heads up OP!
Considering that the price is going up, how many months can I lock in now to extend beyond 3 years?
I'll happily extend out another 2 years if possible to put it at 5 total...
