Microsoft has recently announced that the price of Xbox Live Gold is going up. The $60 1 year membership will now be $60 for a 6 month membership. If you are subscribed at the current rate they will honor a renew at your old price.

Retailers are now carrying the new $60 6 month cards. You can get ahead by stocking up on the old cards at their original price points being the price hike. This will make the gamepass trick more expensive too at the new price points, so now is the time.

I've provided a few good prices below. Take advantage while you can.

Costco: 2 years for $95.00

Target: 1 year for $59.99

Amazon: 1 year for $59.99

I read that if you have gamer pass and add a 12 month gold card it converts it to 3 months of gamer pass. Is this true? If so that would suck.

There's no trick with extending GPU... just find the cheapest deal on Xbox Live Gold 12 month codes. They will convert into 4 months of GPU.

You might be better off waiting for sales on 3 month GPU codes.
does 12 months of EA play still convert to 4 months of GPU (assuming my GPU is current)?

I already bought 3 yrs from Costco for game pass ultimate conversion.
Is it possible to buy another 2 yrs card from Costco (or more copies of it) and keep offline until my subscription expires then add more xblive? Yes, GPU conversion may not be 1:1 at that time but at least I'll have more xblive memberships.

$500 Xbox Series X + $840 for 7 years of gold = $1340. Might as well buy a $1350 gaming PC with equivalent performance to an Xbox Series X; which, can also be used for non-gaming task.

Dramatic much? If you're an existing online 12-month or 6-month Xbox Live Gold member, there's no price change. If you choose to renew your membership, it will renew at your current price.
I've never seen a larger downvote than what you have, in case you can't see it you have -43!

I think you are only thinking of the people that already have Xbox live, there are many that don't yet and other various reasons why a price increase like this genuinely affects people.

I, for one, appreciate the original poster taking the time to post this up.

You know what ur probably right I would think EA and Microsoft have a couple year deal on that partnership(EA play) im just thinking of other subscriptions/options that PS could do to sweetin there service. The more I think about it I could defenitly see a ubisoft + playstation partnership in the future. I will say I bought a year sub of ps now and its been awesome with the PS5. Streaming is decent quality and all of the ps4 games including a couple Ubisoft if I can remember that are downloadable thats just as if owning the game itself. It's been a great service so far and I like the selection better akin to gamepass
PSN is at least going to bring, literally, xcloud gaming from Microsoft. Sony signed a deal about a year or so ago for Microsoft to provide xcloud ability to PSN. There was no competing with MS because Sony was completely out of their league (cloud computing, etc..) and MS had such a solid backbone already, they created a mutual agreement.

I could see Sony slapping together some half assed version of gamepass, but i don't anticipate anything exciting. Sony has never excelled with PSN and I feel it has always been kind of a second thought. I can't see them doing anything mind blowing

Thanks for the heads up OP. Had 6 months left, went ahead and grabbed 2 more years from Costco. I never did the ultimate upgrade, so hopefully these 30 months convert to Ultimate and I don't have to think about this for a while.

If you mean Game Pass Ultimate (which includes Live Gold), then 12 month gold codes convert to 4 months of GPU.

You probably should take a look at the FAQ here.

Anyone know what the conversion rate from gold into an already active ultimate account is? Is it still 1 for 1?

2nd FAQ when you scroll down. The bigger the card the worse the conversion rate

This is almost as bad as the always on drm/used games fiasco of the xbox 1. Here I was thinking about switching primarily to xbox. I've defended them before primarily due to their rewards program. But I fear the point ratio for these subs will go up as well. Oh well. I' voting with my wallet.

Maybe this'll be the bump that pushes me over to Sony. I've always just stayed with MS because I had banked Live subscriptions.

We'll see, I got time since the XLU I have doesn't expire until like 2023.

Knowing MS, if there is backlash and significant subscriber loss...they may change course. But I'm not holding my breath.

But thanks for the heads up OP!

Thankfully I just did the three year GamePass ultimate deal.

Considering that the price is going up, how many months can I lock in now to extend beyond 3 years?

I'll happily extend out another 2 years if possible to put it at 5 total...

Another reason to switch to PC and stay there... I've thought about going back to console for some fps games, but this is just the nail in the coffin
The upfront costs to do so negates all of what you typed.
