First post, kudos to OP with providing nearly all the information commonly asked in other posts (e.g., display nits, battery, weight). Only items missing are color gamut and upgradability, but given the form factor 13.3" presume cannot upgrade). If this is a copy/paste suggest keeping that information to yourself so you can bask in the praise!
Question regarding the Optane, some sites on the internet indicate the Optane is useful for a hard drive, but not so much for an SSD. Anyone have insight on the functionality/usefulness of the Intel Optane?

That memory is called Intel H10 which is a DRAM less NVMe SSD with Optane memory soldered into a single PCB. Since OPTANE is faster that the fastest nvme SSD, that works as a good cache alternative for normal DRAM.
I just bought 2 of these laptops. It's honestly a great deal because it comes since a DisplayPort as well as an HDMI 2.0 and 16GB RAM on an i5. Most other laptops around this price and this configuration don't have the ports this one does. Only downside is its wifi 5 and not 6, but worth it with everything else you're getting. BTW, Wifi 6 is only available on i7 not i5
Good specs overall. I have an HP pavilion, I would just watch out for the build. The monitor wants to fall off from the left side, I've had two, and haven't treated them too badly. That's just my experience. But really you're paying for the specs and the value.

Costco has similar laptop with 12GB memory same i5-1135G7 256GB PCie SSD, 14inch FHD IPS screen but in Wi-Fi 6 (2x2/160) Gig+ and Bluetooth® 5.0 https://www.costco.com/hp-14%22-l...99352.html
Great post. Seems odd that 16gb Ram does not seem to be available with i7 chip . Other than that if you upgrade to the better screen and 512gb hd it's still only about $750 . Weight is good too . It's always good idea to get latest wifi and again odd that you can't get it with the i5 chip. But since my home wifi comes off the cell tower it is only 30 to 100 mbps (at least until they put 5G on our local tower) so there probably is not much point in wifi 6 for me anyway - at least not on my home router . Personally though I'm still holding out for a 2 in 1 with these specs and $700 price point .

And Ram isn't upgradable.
