    • The good: The excellent-sounding Sony WH-1000XM3 is more comfortable and 20% lighter than its predecessor. It offers slightly improved noise canceling and performs better as a headset for making calls. Battery life is strong, and it has some nifty extra features geared toward frequent travelers.
    • The bad: Your ears can get a little warm inside the ear cups. I encountered some adaptive noise-canceling hiccups.
    • The bottom line: With its comfortable fit and superb performance, the Sony WH-1000XM3 is the noise-canceling headphone to beat.

$50 more where? Everywhere I look, it's $278 right now, which is $78 more.

Second, that's not necessarily the best choice. The XM4 adds a few features, but isn't a huge upgrade over the XM3. Plus, the XM4 drops aptX codec support, which is kind of a big deal for Android users. The only big argument for the XM4 is if you really need/want the multi-point connection ability.

Here's one fairly even-handed article discussing the differences:

Confirmed on Sony's website that they are in fact an authorized dealer:
https://www.sony.com/electronics/retailers

This is the first time I've seen these headphones on substantial sale from an authorized dealer since I created a deal alert over a year ago. Definitely jumping on this one
On xm4 ldac supports the EQ as well. Also ldac only works when multipoint is off.

I wish somebody would have included the following in the bad before I ordered: There is a cold weather issue (under 32 degrees) that causes the controls to go haywire. The only fix is to temporarily disable the controls altogether. They do return to normal after warming up. I don't know if this issue still exists with the XM4 but I'd like to know for $78 more.

Thanks OP. I had just purchased the Razer Opus when I saw this. Thanks to Amazon being prone to delays, I was able to cancel my order. The Opus was a good deal at $130, but the noise canceling feature got great reviews on the Sony (an the reason I was looking in the first place). Focus Camera was very fast in their shipping. It shipped out the following day with 2 day shipping. It took 3 days, however, the issue was with FedEx and not Focus. I wanted to give a quick review so far.

Pros: Sounds fantastic, seems well built for a mostly plastic pair of headphones, nice case, easy to use touch controls, great phone software, and very good noise canceling.

Cons: Not as comfortable as the reviews stated. Not that it is bad, but clamps the head tighter than I would have expected. I actually have a small head as well.

Easy to recommend these. Not much to complain about except the clamping force on my small head, and that may loosen up over time.

Got mine from a SD back in 2019. If you have a larger head where you headphones are fully extended, I highly advise against the XM3 - there is a known issue with the plastic being weak on the XM3 headbands which will eventually crack the entire headband. Mine had small cracks for several months until it cracked all the way open a couple of days ago - now I have to duct tape the pieces together for it to stay on my head.

The XM4, which is a current SD, has reinforced the headband in this area to mitigate the issue - would recommend spending the few extra bucks on that.

Otherwise great headphones, best bass response compared to Bose QCs or Bose 700s.
Same exact thing happened to me w/ XM3. Headband cracked all the way through on left hand side and I was careful with them. Bought in Jun 2019. Had to use elctrical tape to put them back together.

Everything is good about the XM3 vice the headband design. It's weak, subject to cracking and splitting, and after a year you'll be taping them back together. The headband plastic does dig into your head a bit as another mentioned. The sound, app, and NC are really good though.

The headband sux bad.
