I have this model. The size/ weight works well for automotive. I've used for tire rotations, rotors, steering rack, suspension bolts etc. I checked out the 1000ft lbs version in store and it was huge. This is a decent price with the battery.
I use this to swap race tires onto my autocross vehicle 10 times per year. Works great and is half the size and weight of the high torque stuff. If you do a lot of work on heavy equipment, this isn't for you, but it's great for passenger cars or light trucks.
Any good recommendations on impact wrench for the DEWALT lineup? Have a drill and impact drill. Trying to build a tool set.
Dcf894 mid torque is a nice 1/2" gun. Also there is the mac bwp138 3/8 drive that is i think 325 ft lbs. It is the 1 tool mac has that they do not make in a dewalt version. Well also a 12v auto ratchet. Mac tools work off dewalt batteries. Not many ppl realize. I mainly have a ton of dewalt but have recently got into makita for metal cutting circ saw a baby rotary hammer. Now i jus have to try some of there other highly regarded tools lol
edit: dewalt also has high torque dcf899 thats 1100 nut busting torque but there is a lot of speculation that a new model is coming out this year since they havent done a gen 2 like milwaukee that is at 1400

Try their 894 mid-torque. Good power, and has basic assist mode along with two speeds. I personally didn't like how big the handle felt, but that's personal preference.
That looks good size for tight space for suspension work. I just bought (1) Milwaukee M18 FUEL Cordless High-Torque Impact Wrench, Model# 2767-20 from Northern Tools for $249 with free XC 5ah battery along $20 discount card in mail. That is very powerful, but it is bigger. That price compare to Milwaukee M12 impact wrench without battery. Too bad I have Milwaukee system already.
I went through the size/weight vs power dilemma a while back. Came to conclusion "if I'm going to own only one 1/2" impact it had better be able to do everything."
I've only run into a few examples where I had the only gun in the shop that would break something loose; but those instances tell me I made the right choice.

I just returned a xwt14z (that I paid reg price for tool only) for the xwt15z with battery deal. That hog ring on the 14z was aggravating -very difficult to get sockets on. I guess it would loosen up over time, but the pin detent seems like a better option. Removed rear struts on a 21 yr old Lexus like it was nothing. Just didn't like the hog ring. Ordered yesterday and it's scheduled for delivery today from Home Depot.

Agreed. The hog rings on these Makitas don't have an oring underneath them to keep them snug with sockets, and will loosen over time.

first time hearing dewalt and Makita can share batteries.
I have a DCF997 impact drill with 2.0AH battery. Can you interchange 5AH battery with 2?

Think I prefer the XWT14 though, which is the same thing but with a friction ring instead of a detent.
