I've used Turbo Tax the last couple years, think I used H&R block once a long time ago.

Question - are these all pretty much the same just user preference? Or is one better than the other? I couldn't imagine they would be very different other than usability. TIA!

There have been times I used multiple to see if my refund would be any different and 99% of the time it was the same. The one exception was I used the free credit karma version and it told me I owed like 10k... Didn't use that one that year

Do I need to buy one license per filing? I haven't decided, yet, whether my wife and I will file jointly, or separately.

Normally 5 efiling of Federal return is free. State return is extra cost but that you can either print and mail or enter same data online for most states to file and it is free.

So just to confirm. This DOES NOT include state e-file? Just the preparation of the forms that we would then have to mail (or enter into the state's free e-file website)?

Looking at the description I see this:
One state program download included - a 39.95 dollars value (state e-file available for 19.95 dollars)

I have not seen much a difference other than preference over the user interface,
I stopped paying and tell people to try free tax usa or credit karma tax. I did mine with others and then used credit karma. Difference was like a dollar or two, rounding I guess. So I stopped paying.

State e-file is never included with the software.
