Side note: Smith Optics will only warranty the sunglasses at the value of what you paid.
Example: I purchased some glasses for $99 ($180 retail), when the hinge screw kept falling out I reached out to warranty. They didn't have the same glasses in the same color left in stock so they offered me $99+ tax voucher. That voucher only worked on full price items. I couldn't get the same glasses in a different color frame, I couldn't use it on sale items.
I found that super annoying, it's a cheap loop hole and glasses don't cost that much to make in the first place.

BTW....if I were going to make something up, I think it would be to list higher-end sunglasses in the comparison.

I bought a pair from Smith on sale for $140 and a few years later did a warranty return- they gave me credit for $219.00 towards a new pair.
Seems like you both had a better experience than I did. I'll edit my post as being just my experience as it obviously differs.
I have a pair of Chromapops. To be honest, when I first got them, I was a little underwhelmed.
I just thought they were a little large on my face. I then took a trip. And it seemed like the Smiths were the pair that I reached for again and again...even though I had a pair of Raybans and a pair of Oakleys.
By the end of the trip, I realized that I had misjudged them. They were actually a great pair of glasses and one of my favorite pairs at that time. They were never unseated until Williampainter came along.
With that said – I still do love Smith's style and build quality and I have had great success in warranty with them. Their quality is really good (like all brands they make lower mid and upper, I would stick to their mid-upper for things like goggles), I love the chromapop with polarized (note, not all chromapop is polarized) and as a ski and snowboard instructor years ago, I'd blow through goggles working every day on the mountain (one pair a season at least) and Smith really took care of us (post buy-out). As others note, they commonly will give you the price paid as credit, and then you use their store at retail. While I understand that isn't exactly Costco return policy, when brands like REI did away with all but 1 year and even Patagonia is more likely to say they'll take it and recycle it but not replace, to me it's a great deal. Last season, I got around $100 credit for 6 year old goggles I'd used a lot and paid $50 difference to get a really nice brand new pair that was an upgrade from my old ones. Don't be greedy, to me that's way better than the nothing most brands give you (or warranties that never actually cover anything when you try). While yes, "sunglasses don't cost a ton to make" there's a lot more to business than manufacture costs, and they are wayyyy better quality than the Walmart fishing glasses and similar (I own a couple pair to lose).
I've bought a couple times from EyeDictive no complaints. They don't provide return shipping for returns, that's the one thing people aren't stoked on but you're getting cheap deals at I'd bet slim margins.
