Or to be extra safe, after your done with that, air dry the sludge on a rat wire screen for several days, then burn it outside in a barrel.

If you're getting a cross-cut shredder just spend the extra $10-20 and get a micro-cut shredder. Either you're worried enough about security to spend the little extra on a micro-cut shredder or you don't care that much and you can save some money getting a regular strip-cut shredder.

I have had this shredder for about eight years. Gets used in a home office setting 3-4 times per month (probably 20-30 pages per month). Has worked relatively well. Can handle six pages before it starts to get bogged down.

Micro shredder is fine no pun but much slower, if you want to go an extra simple step just take the shred and put them in a 5 gallon bucket of soapy water. let it sit overnight then drain the water and dump the sludge in your trash.

burn it?? what are we cavemen?
After you dry it just grab a black marker and block out any wording you might still see and shred it afterwards Smilie

8 sheets of paper, but they DO NOT specify the weight of the paper. Most paper is 20lb, which means 500 sheets of 17" X 22" equals 20 pounds. 8 sheets at a time is a lot.
ALSO "Shreds credit cards, paper clips and staples" PAPER CLIPS??? Going through a basic shredder?? When I think of paper clips, i think old school metal wire.
For 4-5 sheets at a time, with a couple of staples, this is OK.

Or to be extra extra safe, after you shred them, put them in water and then air dry them on a rat wire screen and then after you burn them, it might be wise to take any remaining burned materials and toss them in a volcano. Can't be too safe.

Sorry, but that's just too impractical, due to scarcity of active volcanoes.
Simply use a post hole digger to make a 3ft deep hole and then dump the ashes into it, being careful to remove any excess soil after filling it back in. Then finish by placing a large rock on top of that, ideally one weighing at least 150lb.
