These drives are shuckable [imgur.com] (can be removed from case) and seem to have good drives inside suitable for NAS. May be issues with 3.3v on older machines (only if shucking). See here for a video [youtube.com] on solutions for that.

Not the best prices out there, but decent if you need a drive now.

8tb - $129.99 - $16.25/tb - https://www.bestbuy.com/site/wd-e...Id=6425302 Expired, now $139.99

12tb - $189.99 - $15.83/tb - https://www.bestbuy.com/site/wd-e...Id=6364259

14tb - $219.99 - $15.71/tb - https://www.bestbuy.com/site/wd-e...Id=6425303 NLA

Closest lately was $190. I'm not sure we will see better than that for a bit, but I can't predict the hard drive market.

I don't see this is good price. I have seen the same price for the last 3 years.

Probably not going to happen soon, at least in the next 12 months. With an impending stimulus payment, and many many PC builders buying and putting together servers and whatnot, needing this type of storage, there's no reason to discount aside from promotions that were already on the calendar and for liquidation to make room for the next model. $220 for 14tb is likely as good as it's going to get for a while.

If you can wait, wait. If you need storage in the next few months, it's probably not a terrible idea to get it now at this price. Frankly, waiting 6 or more months for a $30 price break on a component that's already got a good price right now seems counterproductive.

You have seen this same PROMOTIONAL price the last 3 years. The White label drives (Easystore, Elements) are regular-priced at around $260 for the 14TB.

Occasionally the PROMOTIONAL price gets lower, but do not confuse this for a second as being the base price.

Unfortunately $219.99 for 14tb seems like the normal non-Black Friday sale price. It would be awesome if it falls down to $189.99 again, but it will be a long wait for that.

I agree. Hard drive prices have been stagnant for a few years. I don't see anything that might change that anytime soon.

These prices are getting near the usual $15/tb range, so they aren't bad deals. Will a better deal come up sometime? Sure, but when that might be is just a guess at this point. Could be tomorrow, could be 6 months...

Lets boycott by not buying it at this price. They'll lower it soon when there's no demand.

If needed now, then it's a decent price. If you can wait though...

Great post! Including the shucking guide and 3.3V information is great.
I've been waiting for this price for about a month now and am glad it finally came. I was getting an itchy trigger finger that was about to pull last night. In for 2.

As for people debating about the price, it's hit or miss. If you need the storage now (like me), it's a good deal. If you can wait - say maybe until Black Friday 2021 - you may be able to save some more.

Edit: 2021... Cause God knows that we all want to be in 2020 still.

Great price. With 10%+ inflation, low supply, and high demand, I doubt we would see lower anytime soon.
