Check the reviews and can decide for yourself. People who wear Arcteryx I think want the best.

The reviews both professional and individual for those owning both proton and atom, all speak to how their new go to is not the atom but the proton, although to be fair, they are built for different purposes.

Atom is for idle heat. People complain it warms too much with activity.

Proton is for staying warm yet dumping heat once you're active. That duality is just amazing engineering.

Proton LT is thicker than FL, hence I gave my temperature ratings. FL is plenty warm for me here in 40s to 50s in so cal. Can't imagine wanting a jacket that's any warmer like the Atom for me.

This is a good jacket designed for backcountry activities (breathable to cool down during workout and not too cold when you take a break). If you just need a jacket with deadbird on it in the city, atom is usually cheaper and warmer depending on the model.

In general. I'm a city slicker. Been buying Patagonia when it goes on sale at Whole Earth Provision. They also carry dead bird gear but it's usually not on sale and a lot more expensive. Are their gear better than Patagonia?

I really wanted to get one of their jackets but none of them fit me. It's like they weren't made for people with large traps and delts. Going up a size made them to large on everything.

I was forced to stick with outdoorresearch and marmot.

Skiing right now with my proton lt. 16 degrees and I'm toasty in my merino base, proton lt and Sabre shell. This is lighter, though, no or minimal insulation in arms at all

I live near an arc'teryx often. There are usually about 180 bucks before tax with %30 off. usually comes out to a bit over 130 after the smoke clears.

This jacket is basically the casual version of the atom. Not as warm or heavy-duty and the inner lining isn't as technical as the atom, but it looks way nicer when you wear it.

The prices on the website and the store are pretty much exactly the same, but the store is constantly running promotions, %30 off, etc. etc.
