Check the reviews and can decide for yourself. People who wear Arcteryx I think want the best.

The reviews both professional and individual for those owning both proton and atom, all speak to how their new go to is not the atom but the proton, although to be fair, they are built for different purposes.

Atom is for idle heat. People complain it warms too much with activity.

Proton is for staying warm yet dumping heat once you're active. That duality is just amazing engineering.

Proton LT is thicker than FL, hence I gave my temperature ratings. FL is plenty warm for me here in 40s to 50s in so cal. Can't imagine wanting a jacket that's any warmer like the Atom for me.
Entire country buys SUVs to haul groceries not for off-roading
I spent too much money on dead bird already. But tempted.

Skiing right now with my proton lt. 16 degrees and I'm toasty in my merino base, proton lt and Sabre shell. This is lighter, though, no or minimal insulation in arms at all
The atom SL has no insulation in arms. FL has same insulation through body and arms as far as I can tell. Furry pockets too. Hiked a quick six miles today in 57F with 20-30mph wind. Felt great.

If you really need it black medium , I'd recommend getting it price matched at backcountry, it took 3 or 4 reps because some of them are idiots but eventually 2 of them were willing to price match.

The rep names: Ethan and Carlos were willing, Anette and Joshua were not.

HUCA. First two chat reps I spoke with wouldn't price match (first offered 25% off, second nothing). Third rep matched the price.
I experienced the same after repeated tries. Thanks!

Is the gamma light enough to wear inside without looking like an obvious jacket, although it's marked as a hoody?
The non-hooded version might be a better choice.

This is an amazing jacket. I own it and hiked around the Rockies last summer in 40-60 weather. It keeps you warm in cool weather and dumps heat in warm weather. Absolutely the best hiking jacket available for <500

I have many Arc'Teryx even some as old as 10 years and the quality is amazing. Well worth the price. Their stuff is very much athletic / slim fit though.

As an example, right now, Feb 5-18 -20% off, Feb19- Mar 4 - 30%, Mar 5-20 -40% but their list price is usually already 30% off the MSRP. I just wait until it's 40% or greater.
do you know where the outlet stores are located? its surprisingly hard to find online.

Fortunately I live close to an Arcteryx outlet but for comparison, I've purchased several Atom LT hooded jackets for $108 which made great x-mas or b-day presents.
do those prices ever pop up on the website?

Model Measurements
Height: 6ft 2"/188cms, Chest Width: 34"/86.4cms, Waist: 29"/73cms, Inseam: 34"/86.4cms
Wearing Size: Medium

can anyone help me make sense of this?

no way those measurements can be correct.
That's pretty much exactly my measurements and I wear an arc medium or L in shells.

Arcteryx is one of the few brands that actually fits my body type.

The site is screwed up, there is nothing below xl in either color so don't bother if you are smaller than that.
