Hell of a deal. Strix laptops have impeccable build quality (built like a tank). Sweet lighting, fast screen with 100% SRGB, unlike the base model. What's not to like? I know, I know, everyone is going to say 3060 this and 3060 that but if we're talking about a premium quality product (despite not being the highest end Scar model) at a bargain price, this is IT.

Cpu and memory is worth the extra $300 cost over the gateway creator for somewhat future proofing. 8 core 10870h is more future proof then a 10300h

The ROG Strix G15 has a better display, better processor, RGB lighting (if that's important to you), faster RAM, larger battery, better/newer wireless connectivity tech. Strix for sure

No, but I am the sucker that paid 275 for a 1070. I'll upgrade when I can pay retail.

I wouldn't make the mistake buying this purely based on specs. Thermals were tested to be poor iirc. Asus qc has always been an issue. If you can modify it and live with its problems, then best of luck.

Can you point those reviews stating it's having poor thermals compared to other gaming laptops with similar spec?

I apologize, I confused it with the zephyrus g15. https://www.ultrabookreview.com/4...12-review/
and https://www.notebookcheck.net/Asu...636.0.html
list it as a decent laptop but they didn't test the exact same unit. This link from Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/GamingLa...s_view_all was all the information I could find. It's a good deal, just wish I could personally vouch for it considering legion 5 with a 2060+4800h could be found for around the same price (which is known to have excellent thermals). The 240hz screen and cpu is tempting though, but not the battery life and general qc issues with asus (also only 2 heat pipes?).

This laptop or LENOVO 81Y600DCUS Legion 5 15IMH05H 15.6" FHD i7-10750H 2.6GHz NVIDIA GeForce (https://www.ebay.com/itm/LENOVO-8...4481230689 [ebay.com]) on eBay.com for $1,099.00 - $100.00 Promo = $999.00?
The legion has better display, I have the same model purchased from Walmart BlackFriday deal and it's awesome. 500 nits, 100% sRGB 240hz and HDR400 supported. Response times are 8ms.

100$ more gets u a 3060 powered unit which is what I'd spring for instead.

Asus Dash TUF 15 I guess. And that will be a terrible decision. That has a RTX 3060 60W variant and the 4 Core CPU is bottlenecking the Graphics card a big time. Check some reviews of that laptop before posting your expert opinions.

Does this have g-sync or freesync?
Or rather, how can it tell if a laptop today has those? I think Zephyrus and Y540 do, but even those I'm not sure that all various configs do.

Who would want a computer that says "Join The Republic of Gamers" in big block letters on the palm rest? No thanks. I just can't comprehend why they put stuff like that on there. Surely the manufacturers know people don't *only* use gaming laptops for video games?

These new intel chips now can't be undervolted. (ever since the plundervolt intel exploit, they blocked undervolting in bios) Severely limiting their peak performance due to throttling.

It can be tamed with liquid metal, but not nearly as well as before, especially when summer comes.

The easy answer is buy AMD 5 series instead, they 're epic power efficient and have way better battery life and significantly higher peak performance.

Strix lineup has always been a "gamer first" gaming laptop. If you want to spend more for less performance just so you can look presentable in a coffee shop or whatever then go right ahead (although sans-RGB, this one is pretty muted overall). I'd rather have a separate laptop for work anyway as no gaming laptop is ideal for everyday use.

That said, I agree, it's cheesy and there's no getting around it :p to be fair though, they have cleaned up the newer models a lot. I don't even think all of the models with this styling were the exact same either because this one appears to not have the underglow

Fair point but if we're talking strictly games, it's not going to make much if any difference
