One of the best choices for a good value high speed HDD (amongst hard drives).
Now at $45. ($8 less than at Newegg)
This is intended for storage needs beyond SSDs at a reasonable price but not be as slow as the lower spinning NAS drives. Not for NAS use. Best use case is a scratch disk for video processing, gaming data, video ripping for further decoding/encoding, etc in a desktop or workstation.

For a single user desktop use for the non-NAS applications mentioned in OP CMR/FMR makes no practical difference even with writes as large writes tend to be sequential in content handling (read/write). About the same performance as a WD Blue for writes and faster for reads. Nothing is comparable in this price range ($22.50/TB).
