One thing I noticed on the fine print was that the oil sold in packs do not qualify for the rebate.

Thanks for the warning.

Similarly, my son told me that the COVID vaccine has a microchip in it so the government will be able to track us and control our brains even more than they already do. Not going to do that one either. Whew.

But this and you will be sorry. They don't payoff on their rebates.

now thats just plain dumb comparing canola oil to motor use common sense. show the scientific data one synthetic oil MOTOR oil out performers the other under same conditions. you can argue regular oil just as good.
You are party right. Base oil in a class such as synthetic may be same. But the magic is in the additive package. That's what separates the final product. For example Walmart brand fully synthetic oil might share the same synthetic base oil as Mobil one or Castrol, but the additive package will make one superior to another. Detergents are one such example of additives. There are friction modifiers, anti foaming agents, heat stabilizers, shear agents, buffer agents to maintain ph, etc. it's a lot of engineering that goes into taking a good base oil and making a great final oil. They super tune it.
In fact, there are labs which develop additive packages and companies select those and choose ratios, etc to make their own blends. It's not all just marketing hype. There is real engineering.

You learn something everyday, we all do. I'm sure some other members will have more to add but I just wanted to put it in short and simple terms.

Are people still having trouble uploading the rebate?
.
I'm also hoping Mobil comes out with a rebate again.

Stupid people who need to believe they're always right, even though they very rarely are. The interwebz is full of 'em and you'll find them in every deal thread. Btw, did you know that a Porsche 911 is no better than a Chevy Malibu? I should know because I drive neither!

Oil threads are fun.
Anecdotal, empirical, and scientific is all blurred together.

So someone else personal preference doesnt align with yours they are stupid? Thats pretty stupid to say. Porsche 911 vs Malibu a totally different argument. Yeah the premium brands may have better additives but does that translate to do I really need it. Take 2 commuter cars under normal driving conditions one w walmart brand other w Pennzoil platinum can you honestly say without 100% doubt the pennzoil vehicle will out perform and extend life? Is there proof?

Im sticking w what works for me brand new truck in 2005 been using regular conventional oil or whatever on sale. Change oil regularly at 5k no issues +190k miles. Would the premium brand benefit life of my trunk? I cant really say so I stick to conventional oil. Manual says 5w30 ill stick to that. If it said premium 5w30 oil only then ill go w that.

I just realized I never recieved the rebate from last year's deal. Will need to call them and find out what happened.

My 2014 Accord goes through almost a 5-quart jug between oil changes (according to Honda, that's "within spec"), so I take any deals I can get on 0-20W.
😂 sounds exactly like what Toyota said about that POS 4 cylinder engine in some corollas, camrys and the Scion brand. No wonder Korean cars are on the rise.

Covid has definitely kicked off some interesting aspects for business/society. Gas prices going up are due to the cold snap and refineries shutting down though.
Most definitely, and didn't the U.S. take some oil from Iran recently that was embargoed somewhere? So they have even more crude oil we can't do anything with right now with the refineries shutdown. Is anyone else feeling like moving off-the-grid and swearing-off modern society? What's the point anymore with Covid restrictions, winter storms, and expensive oil changes...

Too bad battery tech still Isn't really there. long term storage expense is still way too expensive compared to cost to produce. Total Grid connect doesn't help in blackouts (no way I'd spend that amount of cash to remain dependent).

Back on topic, I did the oil rebate last year and I actually got my shell card. Unfortunately, this deal isn't really good enough for the same amount of hassle on a limited use card.

They better move this stuff, the way electric cars are coming on the scene.

Looking like it's $24.97 at my store. Was it really like 12-13 bucks a jug last year without a rebate? I normally try to stay on top of these with the amount of vehicles at my house, can't believe I missed that!.
No, it wasn't. It was somewhere around 21-23.

It doesn't have to be ultra. Wait and see if 5w30 comes down in coming weeks
