This looks like a Star Wars Empire spacecraft.
its costco model only and RAX78 is tri band(0.4Gbps,1Gbps,4.8Gbps) has 4 LAN port and 1 usb where as RAX80 is dual band (1.2Gbps,4.8Gbps)has 5 LAN port and 2 usb
Too many variables to consider, such as:

1) Speed of service
2) Distance of device from node
3) Max transmit rate from node to device

If you're using a WiFi 5 device, and you have a WiFi 5 mesh system, it could be just as fast or faster. WiFi 6 devices will connect to a WiFi 6 router like this at a higher transmit rate, but depending on the distance from node to device, overall throughput could be lower than if it was connected to a closer WiFi 5 mesh node.

But if you have a WiFi 6 mesh system, that rules above all at this point in time. You get max coverage and max transmit rates. Hopefully you have at least Gigabit service from your ISP to take advantage of it, because you'll be ISP limited at anything 500Mbps or less (that's where WiFi 5 systems max out).

Nice to see tri-band routers are starting to come down. And I'm definitely painting a red accent over the thing if I get it

What are the differences between the RAX78 and RAX80 models?
All the reviews seem to cover the RAX80.

I would like to know as well. On the Netgear site it says the RAX80 is a dual band router whereas the RAX78 is triband.

I almost buy this, but like you said, look like built for Costco only, I noticed from the back, layout different and 1 usb port less.
Click on find retailer, it show Costco only: https://www.netgear.com/home/wifi/routers/rax78/

The RAX80 gets pretty good reviews so this must be similar - it's tempting. But tough to pull trigger when the pretty comparable Asus RT-AX86U is regular price $250, especially since I have a bunch of other AI Mesh-compatible routers running already. Tough choice!

Why would it stop you? It's not like it's an inferior model, and Costco warranty>garbage netgear warranty

My nighthawk AX4300 died 2 days ago, kinda hesitate, and I read somewhere 2.4 ghz band not that good for some of early built. I went with Linksys Velop AX4200.

I need a new router and I'm debating between this deal and the Asus AX86U as well, is having tri-band that useful? The asus has 2.5gb wan for gigabit internet as well as being able to work with merlin...

Good deal, but when will these routers have 2.5gbe wired ports? Sigh.
