It's too bad they did not make this compatible with Ring Chime or Ring Chime Pro as an intruder alert.
That's way, when the sensor is triggered, it makes an optional alternate sound so it can be distinguished from the door bell.
I am wondering how is it different from a dollar motion night lamp.
Does this have a microphone that records conversations and use it for marketing.
I don't want to pay for their business.
Can I get the reasoning behind people buying RING connected devices? I really want to know what the thought process is here.
If you use their professional monitoring, it's only $10 a month by far the cheapest. This includes unlimited cloud recording for all their cameras. Their wired flood cams are exceptional in quality. It will blow away any wireless cameras you can buy. Their apps get updated with new features all the time. List goes on.
That's not how it works, law enforcement has to send you a request for the video and you can now opt out of those requests all together by turning them off via the apps control center.

My thought process was there was a good deal on devices and I like the integrated ecosystem. One app to manage cameras and lights. They can action off each other. Like if my smart lights sense motion they turn on and then I have it trigger a camera thats looking in that direction to record whats happening.
Overall it works decently. The nice thing is they seem to update app and featureset frequently. I cant quite say I'm happy with Alexa in general though. I'm considering switching to Google Home. But Ring has been decent. I wouldnt say it's amazing or anything. My only regret is that I thought solar would work in my climate but for winter thats not really the case. Dont get enough sun so have to charge them manually from time to time which sucks. So now I'm looking for a wired solution but that means dropping Ring haha.

Having one ecosystem is the best way to handle security. I currently have YI Cameras. Schlage Door lock. Ring Doorbell. I have 3 different apps, that handle all 3 different products. If they were all RING, then I could access the entire system from one app.
That is why I intend to keep ring, or go completely Nest. They are both equally good, each with their strengths and weaknesses. editremoved false statement on connectivity to the system)
This looks like it'll trigger the motion detector via a bridge... which I assume can trigger a ring camera to start recording.
May I ask WHY you want to know the reasoning?

Trolly comment, but I'll bite. I would guess they don't want to spend 10x more money and 100x more time setting up their own 10-1000GB cloud storage and on-demand video recordings? they enjoy paying $8.33/month for professional monitoring so if there's a fire, break-in, panic button pushed, appropriate services will show up promptly 24x7.
What is the thought process behind not buying them?

At least it would be nice if you could get say a bundle of 4 for $80 or $85...
