I bought this set to replace a decent Sony setup. This is definitely a huge upgrade. I don't know much about pioneer soeakers, but these sound amazing and really good quality.
Infinity Reference Premiere owner. The Infinity Reference Premiere have far more accurate sound production. Some, but not all, of the components come from Harman Kardon's top end products. Great sweet spot for music lovers that want something more high end without paying high end prices.
However, as TheCouponKing previously stated, you are looking at twice the price as this. This is an incredible set for the price point.
If you're an audiophile, you scoff at considering either and insert some snobbish comment about how your $3,000+ setup is better.
If you listen to music a lot - especially if you listen to a wide range of music - or if your hearing is more sensitive to distortions (especially on the high end), then consider spending for the Infinitys.
If your budget cannot afford a full Infinity setup, consider starting with a nice 2.1 setup and then adding a center and rears later. Infinity runs sales a couple times of year, and most music is still recorded/available only in stereo. So you're only really missing out when watching film. But a vast majority of film doesn't fully take advantage of rear speakers, let alone Atmos - cinematography dictates that the viewer is looking forward towards the most interesting part of any scene versus focusing on the ceiling or behind where the camera is facing.
If you just want something for casual home use that blows away a soundbar setup, it's tough to beat this. Especially at the price point. The Infinitys are better, but not twice as good. If you're mostly just watching broadcast TV, I doubt most people could even tell much (if any) difference.
Just remember in any of these situations, you will also need a receiver/amplifier to drive the setup. But the good news about a great speaker setup is the technology doesn't get antiquated. I still have nice JBL and Sony speakers from over 15 years ago that do their job, but I'm not rocking a 15+ year old TV, DVD player, etc.
I bought this set, the Atmos toppers and power it with the Yahama TSR 700 from Costco. Here's my take on these Jamos: fabulous for the money. I'd recommend reviews by Zeos and Andrew Robinson on YouTube about them.
One concern though: for y'all who have the same set up as me, does your center channel get super quiet (dialogue) whenever you play Atmos content?

Decent starter set or would I be better off getting something like a pioneer 5.1 setup?

I'm not a HT expert at all.
These are as bang for buck as you are gonna get.
edit: I forgot about that the Andrew Jones's were Pioneers.
I got this same set[imgur.com] this summer as well as the S 8 ATM Toppers. Can't recommend enough for the price. The integration with the toppers is really smooth and I've been very happy with the quality.

I am not tech person...and don't know much about technology...I have 7-8 old sony surrounding Sound system with 2 front/2 rear/1 center/1 sub. So can I just swap those with this? Means can I connect these directly to the Sony box?
or in other words...how can I connect these all to my tv?

Same setup you have but with the 803 hcs. Would this be a good upgrade? I'm still within return window
