Of course Epic offers free games on a regular basis now and it's probably worth signing up for their newsletter just to get the info on their latest offerings. Since you don't have to download the ones you accept until you are ready to play them— there is no harm in just signing up for every one of them. The Epic online "launcher" or whatever is not the best system for playing games but you can play Epic games (and Ubisoft and several others) on GOG Galaxy 2.0 now. So if you use GOG Galaxy 2 and link that account to your Epic account you don't have to use the Epic system or even sign into Epic (GOG Galaxy does that automatically after you link) to play the Epic games in your library.
Played this when it came to Xbox Game Pass... actually really liked it. It's a grow-to-power game, so if you enjoy getting more abilities and power as you play the game, that's primarily the draw to this one IMO. Kind of like gear drops on Diablo style games.

You still need the Epic launcher either way, even if you use Galaxy to manage your games.
GOG Galaxy is great, but unless you have a lot of GOG games it acts more like a hub for other platforms. Launching a non-GOG game through Galaxy is the same as booting up the launcher and clicking play. You can also set a custom executable to bypass the launcher, but this is a manual process.

I set a reminder on my calendar, with a link to the Epic freebie page, for every Thursday, a bit after the start time. That way, I get a notification on my phone and don't have to worry about missing an email or the SD thread.
