I thought I read that there's a factory flaw in the internals of these ..... might be better to wait for a Fix or for newer stock?

I wouldn't hold my breath on any of that anytime soon. They are just barely trying to scrape together a class action lawsuit. Also there's not really any alternatives right now. and it's been how many years for Nintendo and they haven't done anything yet about theirs.

Are you talking about the joystick drift on the Switch controllers? Because Nintendo's been fixing that problem for free for people. I actually just got mine back not too long ago.

Ifixit did a tear down and believes that the potentiometer's life span only lasts around seven months with casual play of two hours per day.

Unfortunately every single controller from Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft uses the same mechanism. So holding off for a fix might not make sense since they've all been using the same joystick forever now.

The ps4 controller has had the same joystick drift problem for awhile too so I doubt they'll do anything about the ps5 controller. I had several ps4 controllers with stick drift and Sony will fix them under warranty if you file a claim so probably the same with the ps5 controller.

I think that's their argument: you still needed to send yours in to be fixed. Nintendo hasn't done a thing to resolve the problem BEFORE shipping it out for sale. It sucks because it's affected my wife's Switch Lite and they wanted her to send the whole unit in with no guarantee her Animal Crossing island would be recoverable. I ended up doing the whole repair myself for about $20 but it shouldn't have been a problem in the first place. I'm hoping Sony does something preemptive about this...

Yea they are fixing them finally, but only if you contact them, they haven't admitted any issues or set up any kind of official program to help ppl get them repaired and haven't changed the design. So they are still selling them the same way.

Went through 4 PS4 controllers, and 2 switch controllers. Still on original Xbox One controller. I use the Xbox One controller on my PC, and it has probably 10 times the usage of the others. Are you sure they all use the same mechanism? I just purchased my PS5 and looking for a second controller, however, will wait if I need to.
They all use the same joystick manufactured by Alps supposedly. Many times it's just luck of the draw.
