Was looking for a honing rod and knife holder and found this. It includes Knife, honing rod, storage block. Seems like a decent price to me (normal price is $124.95)

Honing rod [amazon.com] alone is $27.95, knife block [amazon.com] is $34.95, and knife [amazon.com] is $71 if bought separately.

Not a bad deal, but note that the Sora is Shun's cheapest line of knives. I own a few of the Classic Shun knives with the PakkaWood handles (Sora comes with a plastic handle), lifetime warranty (Sora has a 10 yr warranty), and is a full tang design (steel goes all the way through the handle, unlike Sora). Check out the review for the 8" Sora Chef knife on Amazon, you'll see that in one of the pics, the blade broke off clean from the handle... meaning, it's not full tang. Also, according to Cutlery & More, this 8" Sora chef knife is braze welded together in two sections, whereas the Classic design has 34 layers of steel on each side of the one piece blade. The Sora line comes with a 10 year warranty and the Classic line comes with a lifetime warranty.

So, note that the Sora is not a Classic with a cheap handle and shorter warranty... it's a lesser knife than the Shun Classic. Not a bad price for a starter set of Shuns, but just know what you're getting.

Really good advice, and note that the person that broke the 8" chef knife dropped it on the floor, while wisely not trying to catch it--a trip to the ER would not be fun and uber-expensive if you don't have insurance. Certainly a full tang knife wouldn't break there, although it might sustain damage to the blade if it struck a hard floor just so. Nonetheless, it's a good demonstration of one of the disadvantages of a knife that isn't full tang, and I'd agree that the Soras aren't as balanced as the Classics---and yes, the handles feel kinda cheap. I'm not sure I'd buy this set, but I did pick up the 8-piece Sora set when Costco was selling them---I think I paid $200. I felt that was a pretty good deal for Japanese knives, albeit Shun's lower-end stuff. I don't spend a lot of time in the kitchen, so I felt Classics were overkill for me.

Above commenters make a good points. At the same time, cutting core of the sora line is still vg10 so should be a great chef knife to sharpen and use.

just had my Sora santoku replaced under warranty. The blade broke from the handle. Not full tang as people described, there was rust where it broke off just within the handle. The sharpness edge is not as high as their other higher-end models, nor does it retain the edge as long. Still a good cheaper santoku that i usually reach for due to its weight and balance for basic veggie fruit cutting etc.
