Quote from their website as of today - Feb 24, 2021:

After nearly 36 years in business as the one-stop-shop and online resource for high-tech professionals across nine states and 31 stores, Fry's Electronics, Inc. ("Fry's" or "Company"), has made the difficult decision to shut down its operations and close its business permanently as a result of changes in the retail industry and the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic. The Company will implement the shut down through an orderly wind down process that it believes will be in the best interests of the Company, its creditors, and other stakeholders.

The Company ceased regular operations and began the wind-down process on February 24, 2021. It is hoped that undertaking the wind-down through this orderly process will reduce costs, avoid additional liabilities, minimize the impact on our customers, vendors, landlords and associates, and maximize the value of the Company's assets for its creditors and other stakeholders.

The Company is in the process of reaching out to its customers with repairs and consignment vendors to help them understand what this will mean for them and the proposed next steps.

If you have questions, please contact us using the following email addresses:

For customers who have equipment currently being repaired, please email [email protected], to arrange for return of your equipment.

For customers with items needing repair under a Performance Service Contract, please call (800) 811-1745.

For consignment vendors needing to pick up their consignment inventory at Fry's locations, please email [email protected].

Please understand if we are a bit slow to respond given the large volume of questions. The Company appreciates your patience and support through this process.

Sincerely,

Fry's Electronics

It was so awful to see their slow death at the Austin store.

I used to go there all the time for Blu-rays 10 years ago but then the giant selection shrunk..... and shrunk.... and shrunnnnk. From about 10 aisles to maybe 1 and a half with inflated prices most of the time and you never knew if they would get a new release. I would occasionally pop in for a cable here and there and their PC section just stagnated to the point that they just had old unwanted product.

RIP to the old Fry's but I can't see how anyone with a Fry's locally did not see this coming. The store in Austin was about 1/3 full and I don't even know the last time I saw the cafe open or someone at the door checking receipts.

I have a $100 Frys Electronics gift card that I got 7 years ago. When are they closing the stores? I can try using it if the stores are open for sometime.

I genuinely would have laid down money that they weren't going to make it past New Years before last.

I just noticed this today that Frys electronics is closing business permanently across the nation when I visited Fry.com just now.

It's so sad to see this happening, I got so many awesome deals from them. Hardly anyone can beat their prices when it comes to AV stuff.

This is what happens when you go the the Brick & Mortar store to see the product and then go home and buy it online. If you want to have a place to see the item in person then SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL BRICK AND MORTAR STORES!!! And for all the haters out there I've been guilty of the above before.
I would have supported Fry's if they had supported me. Every time I go there, it was a struggle to get someone to help. I would get passed from one salesperson to another. They would just stand around and chat with each other. Not sure how they really earn money if they work on commission as another poster stated in this thread. Ordering for online pick up? Every single time I ordered, they would call to tell me they don't have it in stock or the one they have is an open box. Perhaps others have had better experiences.

They should have just become an Amazon return center , then just turn around and restock their shelfs with the products and sell them as new or certified inspected. I mean, they were doing that with returns anyways...

I used to love the Free After Rebate stuff. I still have boxes full of free stuff I got that that I am not using yet. Ipad cases, video editing software, antivirus, usb bluetooth dongles lol and tons of 120mm fans.

They screwed up with the black friday sales where you had to go in after you purchased online but they didn't have the items left. Total inept management.

Was it newegg or Frys execs that took illegal bribes and kickbacks?

If you have gift cards , you should have used them up last year.
