At $89.99 that would put it at around $18 per TB. Still not as good as sale priced larger capacity external 3.5 USB desktop drives. but better than the $20 to $21 or so of the typical sale priced WD portable; Easystore, My Passport and Element drives. Will be interesting to see what others say about this particular drive considering the number of folks around these parts who dislike (or hate) Seagate drives in general.

For anyone interested past slickdeal discussions on this Costco drive.

For 2019 and earlier one can use the search bar.

Edit to add: Past posts in earlier deal discussions, like this post, indicate the drive (at least in the past) was shuckable. Some, like this post, likewise claim this drive is SMR which may account for the horrible speeds some claim they have.

I bought this drive on sale for $65 about 2 years ago(it was the last item on shelf) I shucked it (it is thicker than usual 2.5" drive) and put it in my pc. No issues with it.

Not a bad price. $90 seems to be the pricepoint for these 5tb portable drives. The WD has been this price a few times over the last year. That being said, I'd hold out for the WD as the seagate drives are pretty universally known to be trash.
ditto that. Blackblaze [backblaze.com] stats could back that statement as well. keep in mind that Blackblaze uses Seagate higher end drives, and they are still trash.

Random but I went through all of my old drives this weekend to again back up the content on them. Two of them, both Seagate drives, actually worked perfectly even though the last time I used them was 2013. I was surprised and happy cause there was content on them I thought I had lost.

How is it not a requirement at this point for manufacturers to note whether a drive is SMR or CMR? Even if not on the box, it should be noted in the spec sheets.

Anyhow, not trying to crap on the post. This is a good deal. Just venting about HDD manufacturers shadiness on the subject.

This one or the WD one at Best Buy for $99? Just gonna use it as a small media center connected to a Raspberry pi.

Yes. You have to log in to even view it. If you go to the store, they check your membership at the door.

If this is the USBC model, I bought this one on Amazon while ago for video storage and games and stuff. It's great, very fast for a hard drive but know that since it is a hard drive you won't get the full speed of USBC, I can't give numbers but the noise level is fine and it will only get slightly warm If You Really work It. At the regular price I was happy with it.

I had hooked mine to my PS4. When I got a PS5, all I had to do was switch it over and it installed all my games and all my info moved over.

I have the WD 5TB game drive. I believe it's not shuckable. Then that's an advantage for this drive.

Yes, via USB. Just keep in mind it will NOT run as fast as your internal drive… not even close. But I believe the PS5 prioritizes PS4 games onto the external drive so that your PS5 games get the benefit of speed.
PS5 games will not run on this hard drive at all, only PS4 games. Just wanted to clarify that. There are rumors of being able to store ps5 games eventually (so you don't have to constantly download them) but those are only rumors.

How does that even work? Can play 2 games at once? But if the hard drive is used heavily it would need a warranty or data recovery unless that's just a WASTE OF MONEY.
