I highly recommend this series. It's (by far) my favorite of the "dystopian" settings (Hunger Games, Divergent, etc.).

There are currently five books in this series, with (I believe) nine planned.

If you're like me and get cold feet about starting a longer series, you can read the first three books as a standalone trilogy.

Highly recommend! Well worth the read.
I read the first 3 books, which at the time ended as a self contained trilogy. I loved the series. I agree that the first book was actually the weakest in the sense it was a retread of hunger games concept (albeit a better one). Books 2 and 3 continued the story without going back into hunger games territory., and they were excellent.

Then Book 4 came out and I remember seeing that its reviews were not great (many felt it was a disappointment compared to the original trilogy). I didn't want to spoil my experience related to this excellent self contained story so never read the fourth one. A cursory glance on Amazon shows Book 5 is not faring much better.

I'll probably wait for the series to end and then see if it ends on a high note. Yeah, I know I'll be waiting for years but that's okay.

Highly recommend picking up this book and continuing with at least the next two.

I'm currently reading the first book. So, in your opinion, it keeps going well (in other words, doesn't get stale book after book)?

Ditto on the high praise for this series. I've recommended this book to three people, and they've all gone on to read all five. It's that good.

If you're worried about getting all five books, you can check OverDrive/Libby, but the wait will probably be long.

I would say the first book is actually the weakest of the trilogy. I liked the first but wasn't too impressed. Didn't pick up the second until a year later and then read 2-3 back to back because they were so good.

Highly recommend!

This book is like a mashup of Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Game of Thrones, and some other sci-fi series. Knowing that, you'd think it would just be a cheesy ripoff and wouldn't work. But it works surprisingly well. I enjoyed the initial trilogy of books, but the 4th book didn't do anything for me. I probably won't read the 5th book.

Man the reader on the audio version would take some getting use too. I'm on a long series right now. Added this one to check out later.

I'd say it gets even better after the first book! I thought the beginning of the first book was a little slow, but the middle and end were really good; and book 2 and 3 were great. When I listened to the audiobook it was just a trilogy, and the end of book 3 seemed like an appropriate end to the series. More books have been added, but I think you'll enjoy the trilogy if nothing else. Smilie

Read the first three, and they are intense. More on the violent side with some light torture in later books,

But holy cow. If you liked John Wick and dystopian society books, this is a series for you.

Aww I loved the narrator for the books - he had a great accent.
