One complaint would be that the lid and main bowl pool water after a dishwashing cycle, so I have to carefully dump it into the sink.

It does the job, not just move food around.
The usual type of chopper/food processor with the motor on the bottom has molding in the food container to hold the blade in place. That gets in the way when trying to get the food out of it and when cleaning it. And the food container part is cheap plastic and you can't store food in it.
I have an old food processor with blades for grating and shaving. The grate is different than the B&D's grate. The shaved cheese isn't as good as I could do with a peeler and the cheese gets stuck between plastic parts of the food processor.
My old, blender makes the finest grating of Parmesan cheese though it gets compacted in the bottom.
I forget if I made a mental note to get or not get the KitchenAid or the mini Cuisinart whenever I found either for cheap. I think one was always too expensive. I think reviews on the KitchenAid ruled it out but maybe ruled it back in at a later time. I think the Cuisinart was a must buy at a good price.
All three of the devices I have, have made very different sized and textured gratings of Parmesan cheese. They're all good on pasta and soup.
I've never tried to use one for purees. I want one for cheese, salsa, maybe nuts and purees. I wonder if it's worth getting this refurbished KitchenAid or the Ninja.
This refurbished KitchenAid on eBay for $25 says it's regularly $30. All the stores around me and on Amazon sell it new for $50 to $80.
Do the two silver ones look the same to you?

The motor unit is above average for cheap motor units.
B&D these days has a reputation of being lower grade, so who knows.
Nuts are tough, so you takes your chances at $30 regardless.
Right, the standard is cheap plastic.
I thought B&D would be garbage. Many reviewed it well and it's OK, better than I thought it would be. Yeah, the Pyrex bowls that came with the B&D are great. I was looking to spend $15 on a set like these alone.
Is there an open hole on top of the KitchenAid with no cover. If not, I'm in for one. If it is, WHY? There's another chopper I looked up once that had an open hole on the top. Another has a series of small holes in a circle all around the top. Reviewers complained of food flying out of the holes. What drugs are the people who designed those on?
Thanks

The dished hole is for drizzling oil into emulsion for home made salad dressing.
