Buy one if you can. Got one of these a few years ago and it's made a huge difference in how my lawn looks vs. neighbors that never aerate. I would have never believed it would work so well, but with proper fertilization and regular aeration, my grass is lusher and thicker than ever before.

And for this price, it pays for itself after just a few seasons (vs. hiring someone).

How often do you aerate?

I don't see how it would be possible. I have to put 4 concrete blocks on top of this to weigh it down and then pull it around with my riding mower to get it to work the best. And that is with the soil having a good moisture level so the tines can pull out the plugs. And I go around several times back and forth.

When I first got this my lawn had not been aerated for 15 years and the ground was terribly compacted so I aerated in the fall and the spring along with seeding for a few seasons.

Now that my lawn is in so much better shape I just aerate once in the fall and that's enough.

Anyone hook these up to a zero turn?

Also, okay to use on yards with septic? I don't want to puncture anything. I take it these don't go that deep.

If you don't have a separate tow-behind spreader, better to get the combo for a little more. This one plugs vs. cuts but one less expense and equipment to deal with.

I plan to get a electric winch from harbor freight. Connect it to steel rebar pins, then insert it into ground and pull the aerator. Not test it, hope it works.

It is 80 lbs - which wouldn't be too bad to pull. Not sure how much force you will need to add due to the tines digging into the ground. Hopefully not too much if the ground is sufficiently moist.

They rent gas powered walk behinds at some places.

No problem with using with a zero turn, you just cannot turn too sharply or you will get caught up in the tongue.

Also no problem with a septic system, it only goes in the ground a couple of inches.
