AAFES has three different models of chrome boxes on sale for $250.

These boxes all seem overpriced to me but compared to amazon (where it's $440) $250 is a good price.

The best is the Core i3-8130U based CXI3-I38GKM2:

The cheapest is the $149 celeron model:

If you have a google based virtual school, hook this up to a monitor/TV kb/mouse and you have a focused school station without the distraction of a gaming PC (minecraft).

I have a family member with this setup but their hardware is out of warranty/updates. I think I'm willing to let them keep using it lol

Wow.

I was starting to question if Chromeboxes were worth it over Chromebooks. Where for similar specs Chromeboxes seem to be more expensive and I didn't see the value. Before the main advantage seemed to be that Chromeboxes offered more ports.

So decided to stop looking into them.

But this seems like a really good deal and I might just have to get it.

One thing to note is that I think the next gen of Chromeboxes is coming out soon. Not sure if this is one of the newer ones or how long support will last until.

It is listed as one of the recommended Chromeboxes (not that there are much to choose from to begin with) when I last looked:

What can't be run on these things? Office products? Obviously its not windows based, so you lose out on any software that was developed for windows (and clearly apple too). So what separates this from the various android operating system found on TVs, shields, tablets, and phones? Are you are stuck with only apps from the google play store? Can it emulate windows? Sorry very new to chromebox.

I know that I'm part of an extremely limited group, but I use these for digital signage. I can put them in kiosk mode and manage them with Chrome Sign Builder (free extension). The Chromeboxes go into an OU, and I can push content out to them. The last batch I bought are now more than five years old, and I can't update them any longer - thanks Google.

I never stopped! lol. Loose the keyboard/monitor/mouse and charge more? But at $249/$149 (50ish % off) it because more in line with what I always thought the price should be.

I'm sure google has new chromeboxes on the way but if it's anything like the hub update it's probably not worth paying double.
