Great deal! Definitely rep worthy but I'm holding out for a screaming deal on the R7 so I can retire my R3 to my wife's van.

I've been tracking the prices on R3/R7 forever, and it comes down to: "Do you consider arrows worth $125-150?" if you ignore the minor cosmetic differences.

To me, they weren't, and I bit on the R3 around $260 or so. I have had situations driving around where I'd like to know the direction of the KA alert, but I've gotten over it quickly. My car is a lightning blue cop magnet, so I just slow down on KA regardless.

To anyone buying this, chuck the user's manual and watch VortexRadar's 'R3 Configuration' video on YouTube on your phone in the car. 10m of setup and it's perfect.

It's not just arrows, they just released the firmware to include GPS auto lockouts.
[EDIT] As previously asked, new v1.35 firmware for R7 was recently released adding GPS auto lockout functionality and additional K band filters to quiet it down a bit from falses.

Just a heads up that the arrows of R7 supposedly don't work well if you have privacy/insulated glass in your car. So R3 is probably the best bet in that case. I ordered it a few days ago - hasn't shipped yet, just canceled and re-ordered for $10 less lol.

i am thinking about picking one up. my issue is that i park on the street and if leave it on the windshield in view my window will get smashed and it will get stolen. are any of these battery powered? i don't mind taken it out and putting it in my glove compartment put its a PIA to it all with the cord. i dont really want to hard wire it into my cars fuse box but i realize that is probably the best option.

Just get a mirror mount and run the wire. It'll take 20 minutes, and it's easy removal for those sketch areas. If you regularly park in a sketch area, that's up to you.

Good looking out - info here: https://www.vortexradar.com/2021/...olockouts/

I'd say this is now worth ~$150 over the R3. When I bought, there was speculation about patents w/ that other RD company, and if Uniden would ever be able to deliver it.

Repped. I've had the r3 since 2017 and it has paid for itself already. Just yesterday on the NJ tpke a copy with a radar. I was flying at 90-95mph and stepped in the brakes down to 70mph. no cars ahead of me. I was dead for sure if I was still going 90+. Mine has been nothing but reliable. I paid $399 in December 2017.

Forgive my ignorance...isn't much of the new police equipment near instant reads of speed...can these really protect you? I assume they just seek out those signals up and behind you on the road ? Again, total noob...just curious how safe these make you or if it's just a little insurance..
