I really like the Kasa smart home ecosystem and this one is no exception. Used this for Christmas lights back in December and worked like a charm, as expected.

I do think the one downside to this is that the unit really is quite heavy for what it is, and if your outdoor sockets are kind of loosey goosey then the hanging weight may pull it out.

I have 2 of them and they have worked flawlessly. All my Kasa units have worked as well or better than the more mainstream name brand ones. I paid like $5 more than this and still think it's worth it.

They do hang awkwardly from the receptacle but the design is so they don't sit on the ground where there's more moisture.

I recently switched from WeMo to Kasa for plugs, and couldn't be happier. Aside from the lower price, Kasa has a better app and reliability vs WeMo.

While Lutron remains my go-to for all light switches and dimming plugs, Kasa has become the only other plug brand in my house.

This is great. Just got one from the Amazon treasure truck a few days ago for $17. Works better than expected.

I have two of them outside. Worked without any issues for over a year. Work great with scheduling and with Google Home. Super useful for Christmas lights or anything you want on a schedule or have the ability to power cycle on your phone like an outdoor cam.

I just completed a major backyard makeover, and I have 3 of these outlets in use (I bought 10 and gotta sell the 7 I didn't use!). They are all completely exposed to rain, wind, and sun, and they still work perfectly fine. I haven't had a single issue, and would recommend the Kasa ecosystem (on that note, I also recommend Philips Hue's ecosystem and I don't recommend Feit's ecosystem).

Take care,
Tofu Vic

FYI, Kasa is considered THE mainstream brand to most. This is a TP-Link sub-brand and they have been making networking gear years. I've owned and currently use one of their routers for WiFi. If you were to ask for home automation advice about which brand to use, Kasa would be at the top of the list for WiFi devices.
I'm curious about what brands you are comparing then to.

If you have loose outdoor outlets, they need to be replaced immediately. Not trying to dismiss your comment but loose outlets can be dangerous indoors or outside. I can say all of my outdoor outlets are harder to plug into than most of my interior so I hope you have the correct type of receptacle installed. Contractors don't always do what's right.

Edit: Amazon lists the weight at 11.2 oz.

The one design flaw that I see is that it uses a straight plug instead of a flat 90* connector. As you pointed out, it is intended to hang and it wouldn't have a tendency to pull out, or put strain in the cord, if the plug was a flat style.

I have two of these as well. One I used for holiday lights in the front yard and the second in the back for string lights. These do dangle from my outdoor outlet and are in the elements with no issues yet. One of my favorite features in the kasa app is setting the schedule to start up to 60 min before or after sunset.

I have been slowly adding tp link casa stuff. It's good. The indoor cameras are decent. I have 12 wifi switches in the house that automatically turn on when it gets dark and off at night. It's great. Outside lights turn on / off at dawn/dusk.

I bought two of these awhile ago for outside lights and christmas tree.

No fees either.
