Great option for a cheap location tracking SIM. I often have to park my car in unsafe & high crime locations. My car has been towed twice (illegally!) while it was legally parked on city streets (shady tow company!), and several car thefts are reported in these areas every month. I have an old iPhone SE that I hook to a USB battery pack and put both in the trunk under the spare tire cover. I can open Find my IPhone on my main phone and see that my car is still where I left it, or where it has gone if stolen or towed. Runs about 10 days on the external battery pack, and uses minimal data. This type of SIM is perfect.
I have this plan. Here are the add-on costs:

$10.00 - 1000 Minutes Top Up
$2.00 - 100 Minutes Top Up
$5.00 - 250 Minutes Top Up
$10.00 - International Add On Credits

$5.00 - 250 Messages Top Up
$2.00 - 100 Messages Top Up

$10.00 - 1 GB Data Top Up
$15.00 - 2 GB Data Top Up
$2.00 - 100 MB Data Top Up
$5.00 - 250 MB Data Top Up
Any phone is an emergency phone, they all dial 911.

Though I don't intend to use a lot many texts, but someone in this thread complained about blocking due to excessive texts. I don't understand how that will apply here as it has 1000 text limit/30 days. Am I right or you trigger excessive texts at a thresh hold below 1000?
No, it was on 'unlimited' talk/text plans.

We currently have T-Mobile. Our son needs a phone but sparingly, where there is no wifi, like pickup from practice. It would be $20+ to add a line for TMO which is pricey for use only a couple times a week. Do you think this is a better alternative for limited minutes and texts per month and do they provide a phone number since I would need a new one?

Yes, you can obtain a phone number upon activation, and based on your message, our GSMT network sounds like the way to go here.

I bought this one last month. We already have 4 other lines with RP for 1.5 years. The idea is to get a new line on an existing phone as a spare / emergency if I don't want to bring my better phone out jugging or cycling.

The existing phone (a Z2 Force) has no more security update, and was disabled for mobile data. It already has all our wifi info stored. I activated on 1/27. On 1/29 it still showed full 200 MB available. On 1/30, it showed 0MB. The phone wasn't on. The usage was from RP's website.

I reached out to customer service and was told the entire 200MB was used on 1/27. I said even on 1/29 there was 200MB full unused, and my phone's usage showed only 742KB for the entire month. The CSR said he also saw 742KB used, but later came back said he misread it, it's 742MB. I said how could my line which was capped on 200MB used 742MB, when the mobile data is disabled, fully on WiFi, and there was not even any security update, just activation? Especially the other 4 lines in the household, have an earlier monthly refresh date, used less than 50MB each?

I didn't get an answer other than an escalation ticket will be sent. I also sent an inquiry to request a usage report. I got nothing, other than "this usage is correct from the network".

It's only $2.50 a month, I got that. But RP sometimes has some quirks which is not so pleasant. This auto-vanishing mobile data is just the latest event, among several other head scratching moments.

This is the type of service I imagine a hitman or dealer using, someone who just needs to make a phone call or too and then destroy the phone alone with the evidence. Good deal if that's your line of work.
or someone who is around stable wifi 99% of the time. i turn my cell service 1-2 a week for about 30-60min.

I have been using RedPocket for some time. I love these guys. I have the xact same plan and I love. went from 120$ per year to 30+tax is good. lots of savings.

Would love to get their 3GB plan from 180 to lower value. I am currently using Mint which gives 4GB for 180+taxes (about 200) i think.

May Redpocket guys here on SD will listen and offers some plans to have some savings... 120 or lower per year will be great. I will move all my lines.
