EE here... a "bunch of watts" implies a "bunch of" amps considering the voltage is fixed at 120V.

Watts = 120Volts x Amps
* watts changes... then amps changes.

I assume you're referring to the 2000W/1600W that's in this month's coupon book for $350. I don't know about how the brands compare but one notable difference is the peak and running watts. Before you buy one you need to figure out how many watts you need (i.e. what you're going to power). I bought this one a year and a half ago because after adding up the appliances I planned to run (a full-size fridge, chest freezer, and a few small electronics) I determined that the 2000/1600 generators weren't going to provide enough power. If you don't need the extra watts this one provides you can look at the lower output ones that show up on SD for less every so often.

I've only used mine 3 times — once for the initial break-in, a 3-day PG&E "Planned Public Safety" power outage, and a random outage. So while I haven't had any issues with mine I haven't used it enough to speak to the longevity/reliability of this model. My only complaint is that changing the oil is a pain. The spigot is inside the case so to empty the oil you need to be able to pick up the whole unit, which isn't exactly light, to be able to dump the oil. If you try to empty the oil by tilting the unit changes are your going to end up with the oil pouring inside the plastic casing. Although I suspect it's problem with many of these small units with the same design.

OP it's actually 2,200 running watts with 2,500 starting/peak watts. For $400, 2,200 watts is pretty significant. The specs say it has a 98cc Westinghouse engine, and I wonder if they truly design/manufacture the engine, or if it's a Lifan or other Chinese-sourced unit. Not that there is anything wrong with that, lots of inverter generators run just fine on Chinese Yamaha clone engines.

Bought last time when I believe was $300. It was defective and took it back. Got a second one and was also defective. The reviews are mostly posted from Westinghouse and posted over at Sams website. I personally don't trust all those reviews. Ended up getting a champion inverter generator and I'm happy with it.

Both Westinghouse generators stop running. Customer service was mediocre at its best. I purchased the new 4500 champion inverter generator. I have used it for more than 100 hours without any problems. Make sure you do the proper steps to break in your new inverter generator.

Thanks for the info, I'll steer clear of this one.

I bought the AiPower SUA2300i when Sam's had them on sale for $250 (now they're $399). Pretty good little generator, wish I'd purchased 2 at that lower price to run in parallel. Sam's does periodically have some great deals on generators, but it sounds like this Westinghouse is questionable.

As others have mentioned on other threads, one you put gas in a generator, the store apparently won't take it back and you have to deal with the manufacturer, which can either be good or bad.

I have one its great. Biggest thing is running amps and peak amps. Some may be 2k but only 13amps. 2k at 15amps. Or like this one 2200 at 19 amps or so. can have Bunch of watts but no amps to drive it. It is worthless

this model need to check spark plug first. better off to just buy a new ngk plug.
