Just like fishing gear - the marketing folks guarantee "you will catch more fish if you buy this latest model rod!" LOL
I just got back from my cousin's house this past weekend. Had not seen him in a decade. He had two walls of nice fishing rods in his man cave (barn style garage), each paired with a nice reel. At least 50 different ones for every type of fishing. He also bought two boats. I asked him why so many rods? His answer to me was, "you don't play golf with one club, do you?". So I get it.
And I was surprised to learn that fishing equipment is more expensive than golf gear! A decent rod/reel set can easily set you back $500. Some of the nicer ones are $2K for just the reel.
