haha yeah I'm looking at a graph of the Amazon price history of this item using camelcamelcamel dot c0m (seller is Uniden) and it has absolutely bounced up and down, particularly in the last 6 months. If I had to guess they have some sort algorithm "testing" sales of this at different price points. I imagine that Amazon and others do this with a lot of items (if not all), this is the only one I've looked at in any sort of detail. In the last 6 months it's bounced between $289->$255, with a low of $250 in the days before Christmas Day 12\25. Since mid-February the price has only stair-stepped down, from $287 to current $243. Not real sure why I went into all that detail right know but whatever, there it is. Probably because I'm recommending the purchase of this for a friend now at this price. Uniden released a couple new models so I'm sure it'll continue to go down, if you can wait. It's moved from a high of $320 down to current $243 or 27% this year. I would expect the next low price to hit December 23rd, 2021. I do own this model and can say with confidence that it performs exceptionally well, detects radar before you have any idea that there's someone running radar nearby. No false alarms. It would be nice to have directional arrows (Uniden R7) but those are $424 which I would never pay. Cheers

I don't know what to do...
I just sold my R7 I purchased last month for $360. I bought it as an upgrade over an old RX65, the BSM alerts were killing me. However I find the R7 was just as noisy even with the new firmware with both K filters on.
The other thing I hate was the size, it's huge.

I have a V1gen2 in my wife's car. I loved the size, but lack of gps and the fear of reliably issues is bothering me from getting one for my car.

I've been looking at that vortex site, don't know which one to get... I don't know about y'all, I don't necessarily need a 5 minute heads up, so maybe range is not that important.

I want a detector that just tells me if there's actually something there that can give me a ticket, and is quiet for everything else, I guess that's too much to ask

If Florida cops don't use K band turn it off. I updated my R7 & took a drive in the crowded roads of NY & it was real quiet. Try using Radar Votex's settings maybe that would help. I don't believe the latest update was available last month but I could be wrong.

Also live and travel throughout Florida. You simply needed to adjust the settings in the R7 (or R3). Your last sentence is exactly how my R3 performs (except for laser detection which none can safely detect). I did have to manually one time double click small area's that set off alerts, (which saves that gps location and radar freq) such as road speed alert that are always in the same spot, or some stores. The BSM from other cars like Hondas has been corrected 100% with recent firmware and adjusting settings. BSM never set off alert now. Follow the setting advice at Vortex, then take a test and tweak a tad if needed. Adjust alerts based on the speeds you drive, so for example, mute when driving at less than 35mph. Enjoy after that.

Thanks, I guess I'll give the r3 a try.

Edit, I just noticed that the r3 has the power cord on the left side? Never seen that before, what the heck. I have all of my cars hardwired for radar detectors, I would have to extend the cable for all of them. Might be a deal breaker. Wonder why they did that
