These don't require a receiver, so I believe they are a tremendous upgrade for people who are considering a soundbar for a rudimentary HT system.
Did not know these were offered in powered form interesting
These would be a step down, comparable with the R-28F and R-820F. The midrange Reference Premier (RP-280 & RP-8000) series uses titanium tweeters and cerametallic woofers while the Reference series (R-28F, R-28PF, & RP-820) use aluminum tweeters and IMG woofers. The finish and materials on the Reference Premier series also is a bit nicer Reference series. As for the difference in sound quality, in my experience the treble roll-off aluminum tweeters happens much earlier than on the titanium tweeters resulting in some detail loss in the highs. Klipsch also seems to boost the upper-midrange a little (maybe to compensate for the rolled-off highs?) on the Reference series. As a result it seems like female vocals are bit more forward sounding. It also seems to help a little with dialog clarity when watching TV and movies. I've got less experience with the Reference Premier series (The Sixes are only ones I've heard personally) but they seem to have more of a dip in the lower treble to my ears. My biggest issue with the R-28PF (I own a pair) has been the bass. I wish they included an EQ adjustment on the speakers to tone it down a little. I've found I can mostly get around this by enabling the subwoofer-crossover mode and controlling the level of the bass with the subwoofer.

Any idea, How do these compare to the rp-280 Or the latest rp-8000?
In terms of cost to value ??
Leaving aside the obvious, that these are an older model .. was hoping to know if there's a night and day difference..??

Surprisingly, not many TU considering these speakers have some specifications on them. I would totally buy these if I didn't already have a set of Definitive Tech speakers.

On Klipsch website, these are pictured with grills. I'm guessing they are magnetic as I did not see any mounts. Also, these have concave dust caps. No poke here.

Yes, they do include removable magnetic grills, but they're relatively thin and the magnets aren't the strongest. I wouldn't expect them to offer much protection beyond keeping the dust out.

Bought last week for $600 as an upgrade to a soundbar setup. No hassle getting the $150 credited back from Adorama. Been using them for about a week now with an SVS PB-2000 I picked up from the SVS Outlet. I wanted something for more music listening as opposed to HT. Have enjoyed them very much. Bluetooth, optical, phono, aux all work well. Each tower is 130w rms. I think these are a great deal @ $450. The only downside is they are 57 lbs each and take up a lot more space than a soundbar. For HT you will want a good powered sub in the mix...at least 300w rms to keep up with these

I wouldn't get anything less than their RP line for which they don't make powered towers
