Great price. Bought one from dwr last year. If you are looking for the classic look, you will need to purchase the black MCL leather from dwr. If you're also over 6ft tall, you need the tall version. This is the full grain leather, standard height
It's an iconic chair that is obscenely expensive for what it is. I bought mine lightly used off craigslist for 2250. I recommend shopping around first.

I still feel regret for spending that much lol.
Sales man slaps chair, "Molded Plywood Technology."

I am also 6'2 with tall torso and ended up buying the tall version of the chair from DWR in Santa Monica. While leaning back on the normal model my head would rest almost on top of the head rest pad while with the tall version my head is fully cushioned in the center of the pad.

Still floored to see these being offered from Costco. I don't think i saw anyone mention that these come with a 12 year warranty from HM.
Yes that's what I've heard when I looked into these. HM is OG but these are not designed for people above 5'10" ish. Better with a DWR or even the Manhattan design one lower which is lower quality but 1/4 the price.

I would recommend you approach official HM dealers [hermanmiller.com] (not Design within Reach because they owned by HM and their prices are expensive) and get one priced out. Mine was around $3900 before tax for a Bristol Leather Black in Walnut. Took about 4 months from order to direct shipment from HM.

See attached pic for my configuration ,

Here's the link to HM's price book:

FWIW, I didn't really like it the first week, didn't sit comfortably. I'm 5'10 and got talked out of buying the tall version because the original Eames didn't have a Tall version. Plus the standard cushions are swappable.
My GF loves the chair though and I'm kind of getting used to it.

We just ordered a knock-off Womb Chair (didn't want to spend another few k for a real one), hopefully I'll like that better.

For $4500 shouldn't it be crafted of real wood and not covered in a veneer?

Well I am sure the build quality and leather quality are much better on the real thing, ergonomically what is the difference? Is the cushioning different, I usually convert to memory foam or gel. Serious question because I'm thinking of getting a knock off and reupholstering it myself.
There are a number of articles and forum discussions about this. Aside from the construction differences between different knockoffs, the Eames always feels better. Visually the tufting you see around the buttons is usually too tight on the fakes. It seems to be mostly the cushion and the position. Some of the knockoffs are too upright as well. I am not sure why the knockoff's can't get it right but during some exhaustive searches I couldn't find anyone who said their knockoff was as comfortable. So for $3k at the time I bought it, the best knockoff was $800, my chair is likely worth more than I paid for it now so it's been a good buy. I saw it at Costco a few months later it was $3800.

I am not sure you would get the same result with memory foam or gel. The Eames is more springy than memory foam. The next most comfortable chair I've sat in is in my Tesla Model Y which feels a lot like the Eames.

If you would like a history lesson, this might be a goos start: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/E...unge_Chair

The main bulletpoints on why this is a +$5K chair are:
* Original Midcentury Modern American design icon by de facto designers (Eames)
* Manufactured by licensed partner to original designer's specifications. Knockoffs usually have some slight differences to ease production, but the Eameses were quite deliberate in their design choices, and that typically leads to a worse user experience
* Costly materials and production process
* Made in USA (i think)
Speculative interest is the term. No one born after 1990 cares about this chair.

If folks want a cheaper but still really comfortable chair, i'd recommend the Stressless.

Amazon has the knock-offs for $700 and under for those of us who were born after 1990 and simply like the design and could care less about whomever tf Herman miller is.

dated design in terms of ergonomics. very disappointed after high expectations. i'd advise everyone to try before you buy.
