Great price. Bought one from dwr last year. If you are looking for the classic look, you will need to purchase the black MCL leather from dwr. If you're also over 6ft tall, you need the tall version. This is the full grain leather, standard height
It's an iconic chair that is obscenely expensive for what it is. I bought mine lightly used off craigslist for 2250. I recommend shopping around first.

I still feel regret for spending that much lol.
Sales man slaps chair, "Molded Plywood Technology."

This is a pretty good deal. You get a 20% discount off list which is a bigger discount than the semi-annual sale. You might be do better by talking to a sales rep at DWR or a local distributor, but to just order online is a good price.

listed as top grain. wonder if the description is wrong.

This is top grain, but Herman Miller has multiple leather lines. MCL leather is higher quality and consistent design/texture wise with the original design. The base leather is a lower quality (still good, but not as good).

Fyi, these are the chairs that the sharks all sit in on TV show Shark Tank in the last two seasons. They have the beige white colored leather and they look so nice. Another thought about stimulus checks, whatever you decide to spend your money on, try not to send your money to China. For example, if you buy made in USA, it will help the USA more. Good luck and thanks OP and others for the tips on when/how to special order with discounts.

This is why so many "rich" people go broke or are actually living in a hole. Keep making "good" investments like these. This is not a SD by far. I thought SD was about NOT paying full price and SAVING money by offering alternatives or other merchants. Lol this chair is not worth $4500. It's not rare, they continue to produce these and for that price is clearly speculative.

I would love this chair but I worry my kittens would destroy the leather.

Wow - I haven't seen this many worthless comments from people that think they're clever since every time there's a bidet deal. If you're not interested, move along, and more importantly, don't comment.

As for the chair, I own two of these. My dad used to work at Herman Miller so I have some appreciation for the company and the history of this chair. As another commenter said, this model is not ideal if you're over 6' tall. I'm 6' 2" and rarely sit in mine, but the 'little woman' loves them.

Can someone explain to me why in the world this is worth that much money? Call me ignorant & uncultured, but plz explain to me why someone would spend almost $5k on a chair set and call it a deal.

My issue isn't with the price. It's the fact that it looks like garbage to me. I don't mind paying for quality, but I'm not going to pay for overhyped garbage based on a name brand.

To me, this is like that Supreme brand. They could spray the Supreme logo on a Walmart disposable plastic shopping bag, and people would fall all over each other trying to pay $1000 for one.

Then again, I live in North Carolina (grew up near High Point), so I'm a bit of a furniture snob.
Yeah my best friend's father drives to North Carolina to get all his furniture. He has some blue leather chairs that are just the softest and nicest leather I have ever sat it, I have told him many times he has to will them to me upon his death. LOL
I have some great leather couches that have some damage I eventually have to take down there to get repaired.

Anyone have any recommendations on a quality, comfortable replica? Love the style of the Eames but just can't stomach this much for a chair - it's as much as the quote I have to paint my house!

Someone earlier in the thread mentioned an eBay seller that no longer carries them, and there's so many crap versions out there, it seems like just picking one and hoping it's good isn't likely to have good results. Any recommendations?
I found this helpful when doing research on the subject: https://www.houzz.com/discussions...man-to-buy

I never brought myself to pull the trigger on any of them.
I think I was leaning towards https://urbanfurnishing.net/collections/modern-classics at the time.

You have to realize that this is not A lounge chair, this is THE lounge chair.
It's very famous (watch any TV show, movie etc), it's part of MoMA design collection, it has a cult following and it might as well be a piece of art you can use as a seating.

Is it more comfortable or better made compared to knock-offs? No, not much.
Will it lose 50% of its value right away? Yes
Can you buy the original chair somewhere else cheaper? Probably, no.
If you can find one used at 50% off buy it without thinking - you'll be able to flip it for full price on ebay in a day. New ones on ebay are generally around $4500, vintage (10+ years) go up from there. Old ones from the 50's and 60's with discontinued materials like Palisander are over $10k.
