If you have Alexa Dots, you can have it pick up the alarm noise and alert you when it goes off, it's called Guard on the Alexa App.
I wish this were hard-wired with battery backup instead of exclusively battery powered.
First alert really has their finger on the pulse of what the consumer wants. /Sarcasm

We've been telling them for years now that we want a smoke detector that's hardwired with a battery backup & Z-Wave. Apparently it's an impossibility at this point or something.

You can have a Z-Wave smoke detector as long as it's battery powered or you can have a hard wired smoke detector that doesn't have Z-Wave but you couldn't possibly fathom having both in one unit.

And for that reason, I'm out.

Good deal if you don't have a Costco membership or only want to purchase a single unit. Costco has a 3-pack of these for $99 everyday price, that often drops down to $79.

I wish these were lower profile (more akin to the nest protect).

Anyone know if the Costco version is the Second Generation? Or if the second gen is the newest?

I previously bought the Costco 3pk but would like to add one more.

Correct.

Like @Shawncey said, the Z wave 3 pack often goes on sale (online only though) for $79.00 which per unit is the best price around.

I have the 1st gen and 2nd gen all bought through Costco. The second gen has the easier set up to Ring due to the QR code on the back of each unit.
But if you don't have Costco or can't wait or don't need 3, then this isn't a ridiculous price. Just $5 more per alarm.

I just purchased two 3-packs a few months ago and they were 2nd generation.

Amazon has the First Alert Z-Wave Smoke Detector & Carbon Monoxide Alarm, Works with Ring Alarm, 2nd Generation on sale for $31.39

Works with all Z-wave hubs like Amazon Ring and Samsung Smartthings.

Lowest price according to CCC. From the reviews, 2 AA batteries last about a year.

The batteries will last a max of 6mos and then begin chirping every 30 seconds at 3am to alert you they're nearing end of life. I had 4 "networked" first-alert battery only alarms. Felt like one was going off every month.

I ended up taking a weekend to wire everything up just because it was such a pita.

Had the same issue. Someone suggested getting 'industrial' batteries, and seems like it's lasting much longer before the beeping starts.

I bought a bunch of these over a year ago for $30 each (gen 1)

I think they are great, I use lithium batteries and they are still going strong.

Only downside, they don't alarm together, if one goes off, the others do not alarm with it.

Yup, they have a "wireless" version which is misleading, cause it seems like they are wifi capable, but it really just connects however many you have in the house together, so if one goes off, the others will too.

I like these z-wave ones though because they will alert your smartphone if one goes off. Much more practical for people that always have their phones with them (99% of people lol), or are out of the house, etc.
