If you have Alexa Dots, you can have it pick up the alarm noise and alert you when it goes off, it's called Guard on the Alexa App.

I wish this were hard-wired with battery backup instead of exclusively battery powered.

First alert really has their finger on the pulse of what the consumer wants. /Sarcasm

We've been telling them for years now that we want a smoke detector that's hardwired with a battery backup & Z-Wave. Apparently it's an impossibility at this point or something.

You can have a Z-Wave smoke detector as long as it's battery powered or you can have a hard wired smoke detector that doesn't have Z-Wave but you couldn't possibly fathom having both in one unit.

And for that reason, I'm out.

Hah..you got me there! Wink Though I really like the interconnect feature...hoping to integrate with SmartThings someday...

Depending on where you live, having interconnected smoke detectors may not just be a "feature" but a requirement. I was running my wireless smokes against code technically to get the Z-Wave functionality. I decided it wasn't worth it the 2nd time around.

Absolutely this! I have a hardwired smoke alarm setup, and I wish they made some z-wave hardwired alarms.

I'm not sure that "interconnected wirelessly" meets the code, even.

For those wanting wired z-wave...why not just grab a Z-Wave Audio Detector and use that? Best of both worlds without all the cost.

Does anybody have any false alarm issues with these smoke detectors? Photoelectric Smoke Sensors have problems with false alarms.

Agreed. I have these after a remodel 3 years ago, the batteries don't seem to last near as long as my previous smoke detector we had in the upstairs area. My hardwired smoke detector in the kitchen is still going strong and I love not having to worry about it or get chirps in the night because the battery is low or anything (it is old enough there's no backup battery, but I'm not really worried about fire if there's no power in the house, we don't have gas hooked up).

it's also SUPER LOUD during set up and scares my daughter into thinking there's a fire in the house when I'm just resetting it after replacing the batteries (current code is we have to have a smoke detector just inside/outside every bedroom door.)

yes.

These are junk and VERY prone to false alarms with ZERO smoke/dust/steam.

If you have ring, use their listener instead.

I have 4 of them, ~1.5-2 years old. I have only had one non-smoke alarm, from one ~2 feet outside the bathroom (wife left door open during hot shower and didn't run a fan). It was definitely a lot of steam, and hasn't happened sense even though she does generally leave the door open.

The only complaints I have is the battery level register with smartthings doesn't really work. I decided replace the batteries every 6 months all at once. When changing the battery the beep is pretty loud. I wear earplugs now when doing it after I almost fell off a chair, lol.

Buying a 5th now. I do wish they made a hardwired/battery one, but oh well. I have a few hard-wired general smoke detectors in common areas that I left up, and replaced all the other ones (mostly bedrooms) with these.

Definitely never had had an issue with dust in 2 years, just the steam once. And I can't see our house is anywhere close to dust free. I do not have one right by the kitchen though (still have a hard-wired one there), primarily bedrooms, so cannot speak to smoke.

I find the prices at Amazon for fire alarm detectors are OUTRAGIOUS.

If you are looking for good prices shop directly and buy from KIDDE. You can find 25% coupon codes pretty easy online. I think the ones I just purchased were about 65% then Amazon's prices.

And I do purchase my batteries from Amazon (lithium Ion non declarable... don't know how long they last but I am hoping to get over 5 years).

This isn't that hard to do. Just wire in a relay and a zwave sensor. I will admit its annoying to have to do but there's no reason not to. Course there's no reason they shouldn't just offer this feature either.

As I stated previously, this is the route I ended up going after giving up on First Alert to bring a product to market for the second time. That's not the point. Many people have been asking for this product for numerous years now. This goes back to long before I bought these crappy wireless versions as a bridge after giving up hope the first time that they would bring to market what it was that I actually wanted. This makes twice now that I've given up on them to deliver on what they could produce if they had any idea what it was people actually wanted. They have all of the parts on-hand so... it's not like we're asking them for cold fusion here. For years now, every one of these posts for wireless Z-Wave detectors always has people posting about interconnected options. Always. That's just the people who haven't yet given up hope that don't even click on these threads anymore let alone comment as such. I know that, for future such threads, I certainly won't waste my time anymore. This "deal" thread just caught me on a rare occasion that I had the time and wanted to express my frustrations. It's nothing more than that so no need to turn it into anything more than what it is.

Sounds interesting! How is connectivity with smartthings? Looks like something needs to be downloaded separately for them to work together.

Agree... Nobody makes this. Even the hard wired Nest one does not use the sense line.
So quite some time ago there was a product that fit this description. It was called the Halo and sold by Lowe's before they abandoned their Iris system. I still have 5 in my house, hardwired, interconnected and zigbee. They work fantastic, but were very expensive, like 150 each, a ripoff, but have a 10 year life and a 10 year lithium battery.
