If you have Alexa Dots, you can have it pick up the alarm noise and alert you when it goes off, it's called Guard on the Alexa App.

I wish this were hard-wired with battery backup instead of exclusively battery powered.

First alert really has their finger on the pulse of what the consumer wants. /Sarcasm

We've been telling them for years now that we want a smoke detector that's hardwired with a battery backup & Z-Wave. Apparently it's an impossibility at this point or something.

You can have a Z-Wave smoke detector as long as it's battery powered or you can have a hard wired smoke detector that doesn't have Z-Wave but you couldn't possibly fathom having both in one unit.

And for that reason, I'm out.

I was just looking into this. There is only one device that fits the bill, it isn't available in the US and is only smoke, no carbon monoxide. Very lame.

Love these as hardwired isn't something I was looking for. These work well with the Ring alarm

So annoying. That's actually a requirement where I live. You wouldn't think that would be a rare concept.

Have they fixed with the 2nd generation the constant beeping after battery reaching 80% or something like that? I still have a 3-pack I got from Costco that I had to remove because they kept going off after battery was under 90%, but even replacing the battery did not fix it.

I should return them and maybe get the 2nd gen if this has been fixed.

Both. I bought both as I needed an alarm where there was no interconnecting wiring, plus I wanted any existing alarm to trip ring. The other day I tried my hand sweating copper pipe for the first time, I confirmed that my listener works and it notifies ring and they call me right away LOL

Have they corrected the problem of false alarms when connected to Ring Alarm with these? Not sure which gen I have (assuming first as I bought back in 2019) but ever since I disconnected them from ring the false alarms have stopped.

Ditto. At least for me, code requires being hardwired in homes where hardwiring was installed when built.

So if I install this, I'm sadly not up to code.

The batteries will last a max of 6mos and then begin chirping every 30 seconds at 3am to alert you they're nearing end of life. I had 4 "networked" first-alert battery only alarms. Felt like one was going off every month.

I ended up taking a weekend to wire everything up just because it was such a pita.
Make sure your zwave network is strong, add some repeaters if necessary, battery will drain faster if its constantly struggling to stay connected, or dropping on and off.

Let me throw this one out regarding hard wired smoke detectors. They are both a blessing and a curse if you get false alarms. If you have 7 or 8 smoke detectors in your house they will all sound out in harmony. The other problem with hardwired smoke detectors. They use 9V for the battery backup the batteries do not last for more than a couple of years at most. The low battery chirp is annoying and unbearable.

So this looks like a good deal if the smoke detectors do not false alarm. I have had terrible experiences with the cheap Costco First Alert 2 packs. False alarms that never end on the 10 year lithium battery detectors.

These are the high end ones. Has anybody had false alarms with this variant of First Alert?

Got excited reading this post until I read your message, I guess this is what I was looking for. I have hardwired smoke/co2 and want to use it with ring security system (actually yanking out Google battery smoke/co2 alarms). So there is no device that is hardwired and works with ring?

got pack of 3 from costco for $76 (may be 79), works perfectly fine with Ring. waiting for same price, need to add 2 more for another floor.
good product for sure. you can define location and stuff while adding to Ring app.
