I guess "great" is relative to expectations but... it shouldn't be surprising that these generally aren't regarded as great subs compared to the really popular ones that are 3-4x this price. I haven't owned a fancier sub than this personally, but the collective wisdom of the internet seems to agree that really good sounding subs start in the RSL/SVS area which is pretty much $400 and up.

But in terms of my experience with these... I have the 10", and unless the similarly priced 12" is worlds different, it just doesn't always sound good. It will rattle the house fine and adds punch to movies but music is rarely clear and it definitely gets boomy and weird sounding with any volume through it. I have to leave it pretty low or it starts taking over whatever I'm listening to (and not in a good way).

But for $150? It's a great sub.

I love how some people say this sub is just okay, then go to recommend a $600 or more sub that's a lot better. Well, yeah, of course a sub way more will sound better, but in this price range this is probably about as good as it gets.

Looks like Klipsch might be turning over their subwoofer line or something? The 10 inch version of this is now showing as discontinued on their site and this is the price where I used to see the 10.

Not that these are great subs but you probably can't do much better for $150.

Will the Klipsch sound better than the Bic I have now ?

I doubt it, the Bic may sound a little better actually, but my guess is they are pretty close.

I bought mine from Amazon last week for 169 and now they're selling it for 149 and won't refund me the difference. They also say it's a hazmat item so it cannot be returned if I wanted to buy a new one and send back the higher price one

What is Amazon doing? I chatted with them to ask if I could return this if I didn't like it, they said I had 30 days. Does the sub sound good?

Just saw it at costco. The copper speaker looks cool but the box looks cheap.

Can someone comment if down firing is better for a sub or does it matter?

Thanks

I have two downward firing Klipsch 12" subs [amazon.com] in my man cave. Carpeted floors. Concrete walls behind the seated position / drywall behind the subs.

Small room. More movies than music.

Keep them or go with these front firing subs?

Thanks!

Get the R-112SW instead or the Monoprice one for $700 at Target.
I have the exact setup in my media room and I went with HSU for 750$. 8000s are very good and this would be a mismatch, by a fair margin.

You would do really well with two of these. It's not the best subwoofer in the world, but this is a decent price

All normal fair there. Amazon doesn't price match. And speakers are considered hazmat items for whatever reason but that's always been the case.

$196.28 on Amazon now. These should drop to $99 soon since Bestbuy had them on clearance once

Would this be a good match for Klipsch RP 8000F front and RP504C center speakers? These front speakers itself provides good sub effect. This is in a dedicated media room of size 18 ft by13 ft. Thanks
The R-112SW is the go to match with the RP-8000F or the equivalent SPL-120.

This is Klipsch lowest end 12" sub followed up by the very simlar R-120SW (both the R-12 and R-120SW have the same dynamic range down to 30 Hz) but the R-112SW has a class D amplifier + goes down to 24 Hz vs just 30 Hz on the upper two models.

That being said, I saw this demoed at Costco and its VERY powerful sub that is great if you came from something smaller or usually prepackaged.

If the wife says it's ok, go for it. However, if you simply have $300 burning a hole in your pocket, budget $300 for some room treatments.

Not sure of the rest of your set up, but some room treatments would likely enhance your audio experience a ton. You mentioned drywall and concrete, makes me imagine it might be a basement with rafters etc. A lot of reflection and vibrations. Maybe look into some bass traps and absorption panels.
