This one or Costco $220 one?
They're not comparable. The $220 Costco one has an MSRP of at least $399, possibly $599, depending on where you look. If you can find it in stock, it's a pretty ridiculous price. If you can't, this one is the lowest price this model gets down to.

I bought this about year ago for $220. It's not a bad hoop, but it's not that great either. The backboard is really wobbly but it doesn't make it unplayable. When mine went together it ended up twisted slightly due to manufacturing defects (yes, I put it together correctly) so the base isn't square with the backboard, but again, it doesn't make it unplayable. I live in a really windy area so I ended up filling the base with play sand, which was a real pain in the butt to do and took a while, but it's definitely not going anywhere. I don't know if I'll ever be able to move it if I want to though.

My biggest complaint by far is that the ball regularly hits the edges of the base and goes flying off in all directions, making me chase it all over the place. It's annoying as f**k and I'm going to end up building some type of barrier over the base to keep that from happening.

With all that said though, $175 is a good price and I definitely wouldn't hesitate to buy it for that.

Oh, and the height adjustment is super easy if that's important to you.

I looked at these a while back and the review consensus was that the base cracks and breaks away from the frame quit often with this design. Avoid.
The more expensive ones have a metal mount to go on the opposite side of where it mounts to the frame, so they should be more durable...at least with that $220 Costco one.

Is this a good size for a 9 year old? As long as we can get a few years out of it...
It's adjustable, so it should be fine. The polycarbonate's gonna last several years just fine. After a bit of practice a 9-year-old will probably be able to move up to full height too.

Full disclosure, I'm the OP on that one, so of course I think it's a great deal. However, people are saying the manufacturer coupon might have expired.

Thanks! I just bought this target one for in store pickup. My total was $162. Is it worth the extra money and trying to find the Costco one?

Manufacturers coupon? Do you have a code or a link for it? I saw your thread today but there aren't any in my area. They are available for shipping but it's 399.

It was just an automatic code applied in the warehouse. The box is like 80lbs or more, so they don't discount shipping it I guess. Sorry.

I personally would drive over to Costco and check. That one's a much bigger discount. But that's only because there's a Costco 10 minutes from my house.

What's the warranty situation on this? If the backboard cracks, do they replace for free?

I been on the lookout for a hoop too. Wanted the Costco one but was sold out near me. Thoughts on this ? Bit pricier but reviews look solid

The 44" is also on 30% sale.. which one would you recommend for a 9 year old?

Check out this item at Target https://www.target.com/p/spalding...A-52832763
Get this one , or one with a bigger backboard. While you only use a portion of the backboard, I would recommend getting it as close as you can to the size and the kind he will be using on the court he plays games on.
