Grounds fly everywhere partially due to bad design, but it's also simply static.
There are multiple ways to reduce static. Single dose your beans and spray with water, microwave the beans, etc

Thanks for the tip. I highly agree, a lot of static! Ah...

No, plenty of espresso machines that cost $300+ still only come with pressurized portafilters..
But a non-pressurized basket could be purchased and would fit into the same portafilter you get.

Breville Barista Express comes with both. Retails $600-700
Breville Bambino Plus comes with ONLY pressurized basket. Retials $400-500

If you have grip strength, a high-end manual espresso grinder can be had for $130-150.
I recommend 1zpresso brand

That is because the gaggia bera sucks. Like all "superautomatic" machines mostly suck.
He is referring to the Gaggia Classic. A normal espresso machine.

Make a slickdeals price alert for the BBE, You can get it for $480 from Bed bath beyond when it goes on sale + 20% coupon override instore or on-phone.

BBE is usually excluded from BBB 20% coupons. I know people have called and gotten into the deal, but I have not seen that price since the Sur La Table deal late last year.

Hard to score the Breville at a decent price anymore.

people love showing their "knowledge" ranting, please read comparison between this and Breville, two different machines with their own pros and cons.

This comes with pressurized (double wall) and non pressurized (single wall) baskets. The version without the grinder only comes with pressurized. Note, if you want to get a bottomless portafilter, you have to search hard for a 3 notched (ears?) 58mm portafilter, which is very rare.

This isyet another expensive "pressurized" portafilter machine, while all "real" ones use non-pressurised" porta-filters! Som gud features but will NEVER beat the Gaggia @ $450!
How is the Gaggia compared to Breville?

Does anyone have experience with this machine? I have been eyeing Breville Barista Express (BBE) but the price just keeps going up due to pandemic. Is this machine somewhat on par with the BBE? The price is similar with the pre-pandemic price of BBE.
Where do you see it is because of the pandemic...first time hearing that rumor.

I just got this last week and so far I've made a few drinks already. My biggest gripe about this machine is when it grinds coffee, it gets messy. Easy fix with a funnel which catches most of the over spray from the grinder. I'm a beginner to intermediate ~ish espresso maker and feel like this is a nice upgrade from my De'Longhi ECP3420. I've owned the Delonghi for about 2 years before upgrading to this. Once you get the machine dialed in to your coffee roast (light, medium, dark) it's not too bad. For the money, $319 + tax ~ $349 (CA) it's not too bad for a beginner. Machine heats up water in less than 5mins, but I always prime a dummy shot prior to pulling a shot. The steam wand is nice and worked a lot better than my Delonghi mentioned above. This is my second week using this machine so I haven't gathered enough info to say its bad or good. At the moment, I think this machine does what it needs to do for an average Joe. Worst case scenario, you can alwasy return it back to Costco.
You must be me from the future! Almost 2 years into our De'Longhi ECP3420 which has been an absolute delight. Almost hoping it goes bad now since it's elevated our coffee experience so much that we want an excuse to get a bigger, badder replacement!

I'm upgrading to this from a Delonghi EC155, which has been a pretty good machine (for the price) so far. I've had the Delonghi for about 10 years, and I thought it was good enough until I tried my friend's Breville Barista Express.

The BBE pulled way better shots, and had a mid-high look & feel to it that I liked. The only problem is that the BBE is now ridiculously expensive, and I didn't feel that it was worth the new primo-price. I saw an ad for this for a pretty decent price so I pulled the trigger.

So far, the espresso on this is a lot better than my old Delonghi, and either up-to-par with the BBE, if not better. I have high hopes for the lattes on this as well.

The biggest difference, though, is that this machine does not look or feel as high end as the BBE, and doesn't have the BBE's grinder setting that allows it to grind a timed output.

If you're in the market for an Espresso/latte machine, this isn't a bad choice, but if you have time and have hopes that the BBE's price will fall down, it might be better to wait and pay a little more for the BBE.

Yup, I personally was one who called BBB and easily got the 20% off breville.
As far as if that sale will come up again - fair enough who knows haha

Calphalon isn't known for espresso machines, but for decent pots and pans. They clearly have an arrangement with Sunbeam Australia ( https://www.sunbeam.com.au/kitche...e-machines ), though it seems nobody recognizes this. Doesn't have the Breville name, but reviews have been solid across the board.

Just repaired my EC155, which I bought in 2011 for $60 after promotion and before a $20 rebate. Still works.

FYI right before Christmas (2020) I got a Breville Barista Express for around $425 (I forget the exact amount). Having used the Express now for a few months, I wouldn't want to try a cheaper knockoff. The Express is awesome for beginner/intermediate users. (Note: I have used a different Breville knockoff - waste of time, energy, and coffee beans!!) If you're serious about getting a good machine, it's for sure worth spending a little more to get a Breville or something like that.
Where did you find it at that price? I've been looking since May 2020 and I haven't seen it for less than $600.

Both machines are targeting the same audience, I suspect the success Breville had with BBE is what prompted some of the manufacturers to get into building similar machines. Reviewed Calphalon specs, was happy to see 58mm portafilter until I realized that it was an odd one. 30 steps on the grinder beats 16 that you have on the outer dial on BBE. What else is better about that machine besides it's current price point?

The steam wand on the Calphalon is much better. The 58mm portafilter has the added bonus of being able to upgrade to a better tamper. So far, for $350 (after tax), this isn't a bad machine.

The grinder is kind of annoying though. It tends to grind to one side so I have to take out the portafilter and tap it a bit for the grinds to distribute evenly. Not horrible, but it's something I noticed. The grinds are fairly consistently sized, though, so that's a good thing.

I'm more of a latte in the morning kind of guy so I like the steam wand being both quieter (than the BBE) and better at producing micro-foam.

Also, this Calphalon has tended to produce better shots so far, but I've only had it for a couple days now.

Still beats my old DeLonghi EC155, which was a reliable, but super budget espresso machine.
