The entire unit is very easy to disassemble. Remove the filters for four screws and a black screw under the handle. Comes apart. The PCB is also easily replaceable if you can find a replacement. Remove four more screws and the fan is easily accessed as well which is great because my nephew spilled hot chocolate down the exhaust. I was able to clean the fan compartment easily. The whole fan can be lifted out and brought back in. Make sure the nut that keeps the fan mounted is tight as the air purifier will make whirring noises if you don't tighten it enough.
As for purifying, it works fantastic. Bought new filters a week ago and here is a photo of my new one vs old one.

Note, the old one was giving me allergies so you should probably check your filter often. If it looks as bad as my old one, buy a new filter. The OEM winix filter A typically go for around $40 though I bought an offbrand one on Amazon for $18 that is pretty similar.
The plasmawave feature is silly. Upon dismantling, I saw that it's just two tiny carbon fiber twigs sticking from tiny box. They dont actually do anything, I think.
I should also note that you can use any carbon filter of any brand you want with this purifier as long as it is the same size as the OEM winix filter A. I purchased a Fellowes carbon filter from Home Depot that was the same size and it worked just fine. This is the one that fits the Winix 5300-2.

Personally I say this air purifier is worth it just because it is so easy to self-service. This machine will last a long time if you treat it right.

- C545's noise level is up to 54 dBA while the 5300-2's noise level is approx. half of that at 27 dBA
- C545 has a remote control. 5300-2 does not have a remote control
Someone mentioned they were equally bad or good and that's about it in terms of the deal threads I've sifted through.
Just wondering if this is worth the $20 extra over the Costco version.
Both C545 and 5300-2 have prefilter, carbon filter, HEPA filter, and plasmawave technology. Both machine have the same filtering capacity of up to 360 sf. The only differences I've found between the C545 (Costco) model and 5300-2 (Amazon/Walmart/Target deals) model are:
- C545's noise level is up to 54 dBA while the 5300-2's noise level is approx. half of that at 27 dBA. 54dBA is about as loud as an AC window unit.
- C545 has a remote control. 5300-2 does not have a remote control.
- C545 Costco deal have 2 HEPA and 8 carbon filters (2 year worth of filter supply)
- C545 Costco deal is currently on sale at $100 while the 5300-2 is currently on sale at Amazon/Walmart/Target at $124
To me, the Costco deal is the better deal. Unless you prefer a more quiet unit then the 5300-2 is probably more suited for you.
Wonder why they keep selling them then

I assume they have a metric % they allow for duds, and these as a whole remain under their limit so Costco continues to sell. As mentioned, I have an older model that's been going well for 3 yrs, so just bad luck on my end. The lack of customer support is what has turned me away from the brand.

One question, does anyone get a remote on their C545 order? I got my air filter but didn't seem to find a remote anywhere in the packaging.

I don't believe these actually come with a remote. Mine didn't, and I don't recall reading it should.
