I had a preorder here as I have their "no tax" store card, but I ended up cancelling as the CPU doesn't look that great so far. But I was also a bit worried about the fact that they are closing for a prolonged period for Passover with the CPU launch right in the middle of it. Had I not already cancelled my order, I'd be putting in a call just to get assurance I won't be waiting around until Apil 5th for them to ship.
Why would anyone buy this when it performs exactly the same as a 10700K, which costs 30% less?
I'd be interested in the built-in TB4 support in these Ice Lake chips. I have been looking at the AsRock Z590M-ITX motherboard, and it seems like a potential small/inexpensive option for getting TB4 support for fast storage or my eGPU.
The only reason I can think of is if they want pci-e 4.0 to use fast nvme ssds. I have a 10700k and that's all I feel like I am missing out on.
Which provides zero-to-none real world performance gains over pci-e 3.0..... Again, this CPU runs hotter than 10 series and is slower than it's predecessor in a large number of tasks... Intel rally fudged this one up.
I have seen plenty. It depends which one you are looking at and for what applications. The idea is to look at all them objectively not just look at the ones that crap on Intel, confirming your bias against Intel.
In general however, there are plenty reviews/benchmarks that shows it has more gains than not over the previous 10700k. It also beats the more expensive 5800x competitor in some benchmarks.
I am just saying without Intel, AMD has little reason to keep innovating or keeping prices reasonable. As enthusiasts we need both companies to survive.
It's...literally...faster than the 10700k. By basically a generation. Some of you need to crawl back downstairs and wash your sheets.
i7-11700K ≈ i7-10700K in Cyberpunk 2077, Red Dead Redemption 2, Hitman 3
i7-11700K is better in Total War: Three Kingdoms, Rainbow Six Siege, GTA V
i7-10700K is better in F1 2020
For gaming, the generational improvement between the i7 K-series CPUs is one of the smallest ever. The generational improvement between the 9th gen and 10th gen i7 K-series CPUs was a lot larger.
